I started looking at trucks after I got a rental truck from Windsor to Toronto and back to transport some tile. Loved the height/ability to see over traffic. Rental was a base model Nissan frontier. So I began my research. I looked at every style, size and manufacturer of truck and quickly learned Toyota's are the most reliable, also one of the most expensive. I wasn't about to buy a vehicle that would give me issues and since I couldn't afford the truck I wanted I said fuckit I'll just grab a caravan and use it for work. I shopped around and found a 2011 caravan for a good price. Test drove it and .... Well.... It's a caravan. Went into the sales office, priced it out and it came to $18k. After 13 seconds of simple math I decided to start looking for a Tacoma. Windsor is a smallish city that is intrinsically tied to the big 3 auto manufacturers, hence a very lopsided lean towards domestic vehicles. To find more than one used Tacoma I had to travel 2 hours to the next biggest city of London. I booked 2 test drives and headed out. At that point in time I can honestly say that I could barely do an oil change never mind differentiate a lsd from a locking diff so I was attracted to the look of the sport trd. My dream truck was the mgm trd sport double cab long box. My first test drive was a 2010 access cab sr5 4 cylinder. Needless to say, I was unimpressed. Drove down the road to the next dealership and found a 09 trd sport in mgm. This was a little out of my price range so it was more of a comparative test to see if it was worth the extra money. It was. I went back home, worked out the financing and put in my offer. It was accepted. Picked her up 2 days later. Found tacomaworld and it was all over.

Let me ask about the ABS kill switch, you use it? I have thought about this but it really has not come into play as a problem for me yet.

I am pretty sure in Ardbeg the noise my rear end was making when creeping down things was the ABS on the rear breaks. It only makes that noise when I have the rear unlocked, when you engage the locker it disables ABS and the noise went away. I think that is wtf it is

 

I never have the switch on. Abs permanently disabled. After one slide through a stop sign with 0.5 cm of snow on the ground I decided it's not for me. Plus I can spin tires whenever necessary

 

Ah I understand now.

I see it as, if my ABS is engaging on the snow, my tires are on the wrong surface and I am going to fast. Breaking sooner, with less force on the pedal in the winter has fixed this issue for me.

Wrong surface referring to the slicked up track everyone else drives in and just FLOOOOOOORS it to try and leave the stop sign, creating perfect glare ice. I always pull up to stop signs with my tires off center of the retard marks. That is just how I drive though

 

I was sliding on fresh snow. Sliding doesn't bother me. Not having control of the brakes does.

I’m looking at doing that as well. How was the install? Drop the tank, and bolt in or is there some finicky shit?

Also the filter that came with it? Anything special or can be found locally?

 

Wasn't too bad.
Yeah, drop the tank
remove the housing (strap wrench highly suggested)
Open housing up
Remove old pump/filter assembly
There is a little bit of fuckery with a small couple of cuts to slip the ring clamp that holds the pump down into the housing. Not too bad though. Wiring wasn't that memorable so I would say it was relatively easy.
Filter I would imagine you could get locally. I did mine with like a 3rd of a tank of fuel.....dont do that.

I have to replace the evap canister on mine so I may as well do the other shit. Having the external fuel filter will just be good on case I get some bad fuel again lol

 

Did Things. FJ wheels and 285/70 17 Falken Wildpeak M/T's. Also moved the rifle case to the cap to free up the rack and lower overall height.
