Which shrouds did you go with?

Ross and allonblack, what do you do for high beams on those setups?

^ with a good hid setup highbeams are utterly worthless.

I have to disagree. High beam performance is more about angle than brightness. Anything with a good low beam cutoff will not provide optimal down the road high beam performance. It may be good enough, but not the best. And if you compromise on your set up and raise the angle a little you'll be blinding everyone. So I take it there are no high beams at all on these particular retrofits? Just trying to learn the + and - of the different ways of doing HID.

I used E90 shrouds. I wanted shrouds that were completely round. I just had to trim a small area for the solenoid to stick through.

They are bi-xenon, so here's my high beam.

Not all projectors are bi-xenon. Only tl, fx35, murano, porsche, g35, e55, e46 the last 2 have very poor performance. Low beam only are tsx, s2000, ls430, rx330, sc430 and others that I can't remember now.

Oh and the thing that makes them bi-xenon is a shield that moves down to reflect the light in a different pattern.

OK, I went to the Wiki and now I understand how the Bi-Xenons do high beams. A little solenoid repositions the shade, that was in place to provide low beam cutoff, out of the way. This then projects the entire beam instead of the truncated cutoff low. Here is the article:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headlamp#Projector_.28polyellipsoidal.29_lamps

When you guys transplant the shrouds from the Bimmers or wherever do you get the solenoid shade mechanism? If so, I assume the +12v from the high beam wire when activated would work the solenoid.

my50 cal - its pretty straight forward - i will take a pic of how its supposed to be wired up with the hids though. I'm glad it came with a hid kit especially since i have NEVER seen this type of hid bulb in my life , i'm sure it would be a huge pain in the arse to find an aftermarket kit for these projectors.
