We only have black bears around here. That was the similarity, not racism.

OP, I had a situation a couple of years ago were some punk threatened me by running his truck at me, he was the local neighborhood piece of garbage but i wanted to handle this right. I went to the local PD and explained to a cop what happened and that I had my son with me at the the time, I looked straight into the cop's eyes and told him blunty that if this punk had threatend my son (instead of me), that "I would have gone ape-shit" The reason I did this was to set him up properly so that in case this turd tried it again, the cops already had some back story to work with when they roll up and find him stuck backwards thru his front windshield. Long story short, the cop told me that 'in the meantime" i do have the right to defend myself. After the cop went and talked to him, it was over and nothing more happened.
You should definitely talk to the cops, tell them the whole fucking story, tell them what guns you legally own that will be in the house and that if he should put anyone's life in danger by coming into the house that you will shoot him so protect the lives of you and your family. The cops will understand and they will probably already know the fuck by name.

You know, after reading the amount of bullshit in this thread (someone will get butthurt and flame at this comment), all i can say is dont do anything stupid. The world isnt like it used to be.... beating the hell out of someone because they deserved it comes with jail time now, not respect or piece of mind like the old days..... The way the world is now, if you have weeds growing in your lawn and they spread to the neighbors lawn, expect a lawsuit and be prepared to lose... With that said, if it comes down to defending life, do what you need to do, but in all honesty, stop being a stupid ass and call the police.

For the gunslingers, hardasses, trolls, or anyone else who is butthurt about my thoughts, flame away i guess...

I was thinking about doing this. For one I dont want to step on the fathers toes. I dont want to make it seem like he cant protect his family. Also, I feel like those words would get twisted and I would end up getting in trouble.

The police have been notified multiple times about the situation and know all of the details.

I hear ya, but there is an imminent and possibly dangerous threat to this family, if you are going to stay over there and bring firearms (or there are firearms readily accessible in the house), then I would assume that you are taking on the responsibility to help in protecting this family, not just there to make everyone feel safer. If this is the case, then do yourself a favor and go down with all the info you have and talk to the cops first, find out what they know and you will help protect yourself legally in case you do have to shoot this idiot.

Then let them to their job, and report any findings. Look at it from outside the box, when hell breaks loose because you decide to get involved and beat the hell out of this guy, YOU might be mistaken for the aggressor by the arriving police which in turn may OC spray you, taze you, show you the business end of their ASP, or worst case scenario, leathal force... Im just saying...

I hear ya. But what about those 5 min between when the cops are called and when they arrive? What if he brings a weapon over with intent to harm someone? The police can only do so much, that is my point. They cannot do anything until they are physically there.

Bingo, that's why you want to talk to the cops first, say "hey, I'm staying over at this house, everyone is scared, I don't want anyone to get hurt but if this guys kicks in the front door I'm gonna drop him with three in the chest" make sure the cops understand that you are not going to hunt this guy down, you are going to protect your family, that is it, they will get it.

I didn't read past the OP forgive me.

    Don't be a vigilante.

Just document everything and hand it over to the police.

If he shows up and is showing signs of dangerous behavior, call 911

    Simple.
