I've owned a 2nd gen and 3rd gen, but I just bought a 1996 regular cab Tacoma. 4 cylinder 4 wheel drive. Replaced the brake lights. And the license plate lights. The license plate lights still won't work. Checked fuses. All seems right. Also the radio works but it's not backlit at night. It that normal? And the cigarette lighter port doesn't work. I'm not an electrician. Someone help me out.

Welcome to TW Ryan! Post up another thread in the 1st gen section with a title more orientated for help with wiring and more educated answers will show up. Hope you find the problems/answers! Good luck man.

When I bought mine, the radio didn't light up either. I found an oem premium deck on craigslist and swapped them, the craigslist radio lights up perfectly. Maybe try that? Think I spent 20 bucks on mine, and now I've got a tape deck! Haha
