It was a fun 500 miles. I bought it brand new, spent months searching for an OR with a manual, and with 537 miles on the odometer the low oil pressure light came on and the dipstick was dry. I sold my VW because of reliability issues, at least that never left me stranded 150 miles from home on a Sunday. The OR hasn't even seen a real dirt road yet.

Also, toyota customer service is the worst thing I've ever experienced.

Did you ever check the oil ? I would have right away but that's just me and I would doubt it left the factory not full . Was there oil on the ground or bottom of motor ? Make sure to report back the dealer findings .

I'm pretty sure other people had issues with differential or transmission fluid being underfilled from the factory. First time I've seen this with oil

I didn't even make it to the stream. I didn't think to check oil on a car with >500 miles. Since its Sunday I couldn't contact the dealer, I'll update if I find anything out.

Any opinions on accepting a fix vs new motor? Obviously thats a tough question without knowing the damage, but I'm worried they'll give me a new seal or something easy and ignore the cooked rod bearings

Sorry this happened to you - fortunately you have a warranty, hopefully the dealer makes this right quickly. :fingerscrossed:

Is it being towed with all 4 wheels off the ground and on a dolly in the front?
Keep us posted as to what happened.

also what customer service are you referencing?

It's going to be really hard to give you any solid advice here until you know the full scope of what happened and the damage (if any) done to the motor. Good luck brother; this sort of thing should not happen but it unfortunately does sometimes.

Please tell us what happened when you called customer service. What didn’t you like about it? I’d like to know what you are asking them to do that they didn’t and if it’s unreasonable.

My brother-in-law bought a brand new Subaru years ago that drank oil from the start. It turned out that one cylinder was scored. The rings were fried. They completely hand built new pistons and block. It ran perfect for a decade until it had “normal Subaru” boxer engine problems like any other.

That’s crazy that the oil wasn’t even on the dipstick. Curious if there was a leak somewhere. FWIW, I check the oil level and tire pressure weekly on my 2021, especially before any lengthy trips. Better safe than sorry I guess.

The roadside assistance. It took a while to talk to anyone.. The lady kept thinking that I ran out of gas. I'm a long way from home and wouldn't answer any questions about a rental car

So what’s your current situation ? Did you get a rental ? Did you find a dealer ?

pretty sure you can get a hotel and rental yourself and toyota will reimburse you if their vehicle is at fault.

Work with the dealer. Something unusual happened.

You're under warranty, so sit tight and "enjoy" the white knuckle ride.

Above all.... BE PATIENT. A situation like this will take time to resolve.

Should be fine with the front wheels on the ground since it's a manual transmission.

Assuming that you shut the engine off when the low oil pressure light came on the engine is probably fine. You could politely push for a complimentary extended warranty for your piece of mind.

Politely being a key here - defects occur with all brands, give the dealer a chance to make this right.

I know you are upset, however if you go in the dealer guns blazing Monday morning you will put them on the defensive first thing, give them a chance to make it right.

Welcome to Tacoma World by the way! :hattip:

Don’t see how transmission is relevant to this. The manual clearly lists how to tow the vehicle and front wheels need to be on a dolly

Looks like toyota will cover $500 a day. So time to get a nice room and some room service on their dime

Edit this may apply to the Mirai only
