Not a normal issue… if it’s out of oil your getting a new short block no doubt… shitty it happened like this. But man made machines will always be imperfect, and unfortunately you got unlucky.

Make sure you ask for warranty to be extended 10yr/100,000. Can’t hurt to ask.

If the trucks not in 4x4 then it can be towed with the front wheels on the ground…. Won’t be any extra wear on the diff or axles since it’s the same thing as if your driving in 2wd

I never understood that. The only trucks that’s an issue with are the AWD 4runners and sequoias. antrhing with ADD can safely be towed with the front wheels on the ground

This sucks, but it happens. Just an unlucky draw and it's not limited to any particular brand. I had a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee that only made it 200 miles before it needed a cylinder head replaced. Hope it works out and your dealership does the right thing.

With the automatic you run the risk of damaging the transmission with the front wheels on the ground if you're dumb and have it in 4hi for some reason. With the manual there's no risk of damage since the transmission doesn't require an oil pump to maintain lubrication. It's wrong by the owners manual but doesn't carry the same risk.

4hi in a truck with a manual in gear can lead to issues too..

I really don’t wanna sound like a dick here but I have always been under the impression that checking fluid levels and tire pressure was just SOP before any road trip

    Sucks man!

I check new cars inside out I am buying same as a used car I would be buying.
Check for frame damage, bondo repairs, engine coolant, oil color on dipstick, remove oil cap and smell inside engine, etc.
I have never encountered a new car engine with no oil. That’s just crazy!!!

Hope Toyota takes care of you.

I think that's on the dealership's checklist as well, before selling.

IMO, that checklist is worth the paper it's printed on.
My dealership absolved themselves of that responsibility anyway. Claimed it was completed by the distributor(Gulf State).

Low oil pressure is a warning light, not an 'I'm out of oil and dead to you' light.

No oil on the dipstick doesn't mean the crankcase is empty, just that you're down way more than you should be.

IF you have no obvious leaks or blow outs of oil, my guess is they'll top it with oil, start it, and send you on your way.

If you have lot's 'o wet stuff, it will get fixed. Start with an exam of the timing cover seal.

Either way, I would, as someone else suggested, seek an extended warranty, since you were either given delivery of the vehicle with inadequate prep or had a failure of significance early in the life of the vehicle.

    Let us know the results..........

Or a leak that happens when the truck is running.

Me personally I'd review the lemon laws for the state and see about getting a new truck entirely. A repair would be acceptable but a failure that early is not a great sign.

The people saying be patient and work with the dealer are right.

It’s part of our PDI. But if it had no oil for 500 miles it wouldn’t of made it 500 miles

That's a bummer for sure OP. I would be upset too.

Chances are if you shut it off right away there was no damage to the engine.

I doubt the oil was that low the whole time you've had it. Something must have failed to cause the oil level to drop suddenly.

Hopefully the dealer and Toyota make this right for you. Like already mentioned I would push them for an extended warranty.
