My wife was driving away in her Ford Escape at the dealership when she heard the motor rapping loud AF. She shut it down and went back in leaving it right where it was. Tech ran out and there was no oil. Empty! She got service for free with two more additional changes. Check your oil whenever leaving from oil change. I did wonder how come whoever drove it out of the building didn’t hear it

I received a pre-delivery check list on a truck I bought in 2002 that had the typical boxes to check off after inspection.

The feeling of relief it gave me was immeasurable, especially knowing that "clutch operation" and "4 wheel drive engagement" operated properly on my brand new 2 wheel drive automatic pick up.

Nobody is going to hear a little ticking and clacking over the sound of tire squealing at red line on a cold engine

Were you on a boat ramp when this occurred? Or a significant incline?

No, it was all just highway driving. No boat and relatively flat PA highways

Weird. Especially at 1.5 quarts down.

Who knows what really happened. The dealer is full of shit at all times, trying to dumb it down to make the customer disappear. Probably just under filled originally, if it was shut down in time, no harm no foul.

I apologize if anyone has already asked this but when you saw the oil was low did you not think to try throw a quart in to see how low it actually was ? You could keep an eye on the level till you get home then go back to the dealer and tell them what happened. Just make sure you kept your receipt for the oil.

I thought about it, but being it was under warranty I didn't want them to blame anything on me. I was afraid of a "the warning light came on, why didn't you stop driving it?" The tow was free

    UPDATE
I went to the dealer where I bought it and politely asked if it was burning oil or if the fucked up the PDI. They filled it to the correct level, marked it, taped all the oil holes, and want me to come back in 1k to see if the oil level dropped

If you plan to do the next oil change yourself, you might want to consider sending a sample to Blackstone labs for analysis. A blood test for your engine if you will. Their reports are highly detailed and written by an actual person who analyzes your sample in several ways. I’ve done it a few times for my 01. Money well spent. Only about $38 for their most thorough test.
