buy factory? ha.. that's crazy. I've been reloading for almost 20 years now. I cast my own bullets in 22, 30, 40, 45 calibers. I've read alot of threads from people that have issues with reloads jamming when getting chambered in the barrel. If you shoot factory ammo, then sure, they're probably great. But why spend 30 dollars for 40 rounds when I can have 1 round that costs 6 cents? I just got back from the range a little bit ago and shot 100 rounds through my AR-15 and it probably cost me about 8 dollars

Do you jacket your bullets or at least use a gas check?

The S&W 40 is a good gun and its very light. the only metal is the slide ande the barrel. My dad just got one. but it doesnt have a safety I dont think. but it has the progressive trigger.

i have 4 hand guns.. what it comes down to is size.. i carry my S&W .38 special airweight revolver in the summer b/c it's really easy to conceal.. in the winter i carry my glock 39 (45GAP), which is my baby..

try to shoot as many handguns as you can, see what feels comfortable in your hand, and what trigger pull feels the best..

here is a day out w/the ladies haha

25 yrs old and reloading for 20 yrs! You are awesome. You forgot to factor your time , what is your time worth?Personally for me to put a dollar figure on my time for recreational time would be hard.I would have to think how much would someone have to pay me for me to "work" on one of my meager hours of rec. time.....40 bucks is what I come up with making my reloaded ammo very expensive. You should also look at the price of component prices right now and your cost per round figure might change.

You CAN reload for Glocks , you just have to do it RIGHT.If you use lead clean it RIGHT.To base a purchase off of the reloaded ammo usability is moronic.

XDs do have the same grip angle as a 1911. XDs are an improvement on Glocks imo and many others. Give the XD as long a span as the Glock has had and we'll see what the sales figures are then.
I'm not saying Glocks are junk but I will say that I believe that my XD is tougher and will out perform the equivalent model Glock in a torture test.
    That is all.

But it is cute how defensive you guys get. ;)

I've been an avid handgun shooter since the mid-60s, and shot competitively for several decades as well as hunted with handguns and carried them for personal defense. I still don't claim any particular expertise, there are lots of handguns I've never tried and know zip about. I did own a Glock for a number of years and shot it quite a bit, a 17 full-size in 9mm. I liked it quite a bit but confess that I will never quite understand what the inventor was smoking when he came up with the brilliant idea to locate the safety in the middle of the dang trigger!!!?! WTF?? My own preference in a semi-auto is either a frame-mounted safety ala the 1911, or a DA design with no safety whatever. I see the Glock as being neither fish nor fowl. I gave mine away to a friend and doubt that I'll own another, but will say that I found the gun to be reasonably accurate and completely reliable.

The beauty of the Glock design really shines through when shooting larger calibers. If you're gonna be shooting 9mm, recoil absorption is not as big of a consideration.

it depends on the mold we use if we use gaschecks or not by if it was designed for one or just has a flat base. For the 45 we have 4 molds and only 1 has gas checks.

    87eaedc2_d81425da50aedd485d795cbb1705619e00c6abcd.jpg
    210gr Hollopoints for the 45.

I don't know how you can place a cost on your recreational time of 40/hr. I use a Dillion press and you can probably pump out 200 rnds/hr of pistol ammo and 223's for the AR's. Sizing/lubing the cast bullets takes about the same time. I cast almost 600 45's in less than 2 hours then sized them in about 2ish hours.

when we're shooting 100/200 yard comps we measure each case, trim, and use the regular rcbs rockchucker press and measure each ammount of powder by hand to make sure it's as consistant as possible for tight groupings.

    Sweet

BTW, you shouldn't shoot those reloaded rounds through a glock or any gun with a polygonal barrel. The gas seal on them is tighter which means the barrel will become leaded very quickly if you fire un-jacketed rounds.

I like the grip, all the features of it, etc. Also, I think Glock isn't what people make it out to be. The XD would beat the Glock in a torture test, like PackerFan said.

Grip is a matter of preference so I'll give you that even though physics dictates that the Glock grip allows for better control of recoil.

What leads you to believe it would beat the Glock in a torture test?

Handgun recoil is not a big deal to me, I've always felt that a similar size 9x19, 40S&W and 45ACP all felt roughly the same although I'm sure that is due to years of desensitization. I've never fired a Glock in a bigger caliber (like the 10mm or 357SIG which seem to me a bit snappier than the more standard calibers) but did fire a friend's in 40S&W once. I do not doubt that the largish grip-frame and the composite material of the Glock would make recoil slightly more manageable.

The grip is the same as the 1911, a proven gun in the field. I know what physics says, but it's all about personal preference.

From what I've seen, the XD is more durable. The Glock is like a toy.

    Of course, IMO.

Here's a helpful pic on chamber support (or lack thereof). ;)
