I just got my new 2012 DC 4x4 with manual transmission...couldn't believe it when I saw it on the lot at the dealership (had to hide my excitement from the dealer!).

I don't know how many manual transmissions they make each year, but the dealer that sold it to me said that they seem to ship less of them to urban areas and dealerships closer to the cities, and that when they do get one in, it rarely sits on the lot for more than a day or two. Not sure how much of that true (after all, he was trying to sell me on it), but I know when I bought my 2005 I couldn't find a manual DC to save my life.

    New Taco!! Love it!

I just got my first taco and absolutely love it! It is a 2012 DCSB TRD Off Road in Spruce Mica. I have had it now for two weeks and cannot wait to start customizing it. I hunt and fish pretty heavily in NH and the truck just fits my lifestyle perfectly. It is only a matter of time before I start going over board like all you crazy taco heads. Can't wait! Here's a junk pic of it in the drive after I got done washing it.

I just bought my first Tacoma! A 2009 4x4 TRD off road AC V6 auto, and I have fallen in love. It had 63,000 km on it and it's in great shape. Picked it up for $26,000 before tax. I've been a lurker on here for a long time now. But, now that I actually have one I feel as if I can post.
Just hit the dirt today for a couple nice comfy hours of wheeling. Lots of fantastic info and advice on here. I want to put some new tires on the truck and an afe cold air intake with a pro dry s filter. Possibly a "smallish" lift to accommodate said tires but don't want to go too big. Keep some fuel economy, etc.. Anyway, thanks for the wealth of knowledge everyone, keep it up!

I'm introducing myself like the site is telling me to, so here we go.

I'm a proud owner of a 2000 Tacoma TRD 3.4L white exterior with black/tan interior (my dream truck). Things I've done to it: 6" FabTech suspension 3" body lift, 35x12.50R15 BFG AT T/A KO tires, Mickey Thompson black wheels, 4:88 front and rear gears, e-locker "grey wire mod," Hella driving lights, Downey chrome air intake w/ K&N filter, AirAid throttle body spacer, Flowmaster exhaust, Alpine audio w/ 10" MTX sub, Hyper black racing seats, black powdercoated toolbox, smoked out black taillights, and coming soon is the Relentless Fabrication off-road front plate bumper!

Obviously, my truck IS my hobby! I work on it and tinker with it constantly because that's just what I love to do!

Glad to be a part of TW now, too!

OK, it's not new. Got 115K miles when I got it. Fixer-upper 2004 SR5 4x4. Wanted something that I wouldn't worry about hurting when taking it to a trailhead a long ways from pavement.

Anyway, had a tire-rubbing problem on an incline. Dealer suggested shocks, but that it might not be enough and suggested researching the Bilstein 5100 leveling kit, which I found discussed here. Really appreciate the discussion. Had them installed Friday, couldn't be happier with the result.

Solid little truck. Should last for years!

I'm wondering what a 'good' price is on a new Taco, relative to the sticker. Would you share your experience? I'm interested in 4x4.

Hello World! Just bought a 2011 Prerunner TRD Off-Road in super white. Felt right at home as soon as I sat in it. Although I've only had it for a couple weeks, I've been a fan of this site for quite some time. Thanks for all the great info!!!

So I never officially posted last month when I got my Taco, but after a month of ownership, all I do is think about what a great decision I made.

06 Access with the 6 speed trans and 70K miles.

Great in the dirt and the rocks but definitely looking to continue modding after a few more paycheck

    Greetings from lovely NJ folks.

Just bought my 1st Taco on Saturday - Super White double cab with the TRD Off-Road package and Tow kit.

This is the second truck I have owned (I had a Mazda B2200 back in the late 80's) and my wife considers it my MidLife Crisis vehicle :D:D:D since I already did the Porsche 911 and BMW M3 thing.

Loving the truck so far, but it has only been 2 days.

I really appreciate and want to thank all of you for the great knowledge and detail that you post on this board. I am already making a list of mods that I am interested in.

@RMGARNER0112 - I can give you my personal experience on buying new.

1 st - do the research, the online sites that give you "invoice pricing" are well known by car manufacturers and if you go to KBB.COM or even Consumer Reports you get a barrage of car maker adds - so you should smell a rat.

Most car makers have been moving UP the invoice price and keeping the MSRP/Sticker prices relatively flat. This is done because the dealers KNOW that you know the 'published' invoice prices and that you will do your best to get down to what you believe is their cost. :(:(

I read about a lot of the backend deals that the dealers get & the kickbacks that they receive based on # of vehicles sold on a monthly & quarterly basis. So I timed my purchase accordingly. The dealer was pretty 'open' to negotiation on the last day of the selling period. :D:D:D

If you are serious - I would recommend purchasing the New Car buying guide from James Bragg's site Fighting Chance. I followed his recommendations and bought a 2012 on the last selling day of June for $423 BELOW published invoice.

I was happy with the deal as was my Chief Financial Officer (the Mrs.) and I went home with a 2012 Super White 4 door/Auto Taco with TRD Offroad Extra Value package, V6 towing package, mats, wheel locks, destination, etc. for $30,000 even (MSRP was $32,859/invoice was $30,923 and there was a $500 manufacturer discount). :)

    Hope this helps.
    Ron

I had the opposite problem, when I was shopping for a new Taco almost all of the 4X4 trucks on the lots were manual. I needed an automatic because my wife could no longer handle a clutch and we had to retire the old jeep.

Well, I bought my first Toyota last Wednesday (Forth of July Sale I couldn't pass up). I needed a truck to do some towing and basic hauling.

I was driving a 2000 VW Jetta Diesel, hopped up a lot. (~360 ft-lb torque, 15 second quarter mile; 45 MPG) It's got 245k miles on it. (I go by the same username on the TDIClub.com, if anybody hops over there.) I'll be selling it shortly, gonna miss the mileage and power. But loving the Tacoma so far!

My dad had a T100 with the 4 cylinder, he had something like 470k miles on it, only ever changed the alternator and starter brushes as he tells it. He finally killed it rounding up cattle, but that's a story for another day. He just bought another T100, this time with the V6. If a Toyota motor can hold up that long with my dad, AND he goes and buys another......that was all the recommendation I needed to pick one up. :)

Mine's a barely broken-in 2010, silver PreRunner, Regular Cab, 5-speed. It's the silver one, and came with a nice black diamond-deck toolbox bolted on, and a receiver hitch. Other than that, it appears to be bone stock (for now).

Looking forward to getting many, many miles out of it!

    Keith
