I have been a member of TW for years and post here and there and do lots of shopping and info gathering, it’s such a great place for that! Sucks to have post removed just because of working on getting to my required number of posts to be able to give feedback on or reply to by cell trade.

Brand new member: don't even have a Tacoma yet. Bear with me! My first new vehicle was a 1983 VW GTI and it may still be my favorite. Have a Forester now but will VERY likely replace it with a 2024 or 2025 Tacoma. I've about decided I need something with a bed and a max tongue weight over 600 lbs., and I want a manual transmission. Do you know what that narrows it down to? Of course you do. For unreasonable cost of ownership and reliability, not to mention comfort, the Gladiator is out.

So now, when I'm about to pull the trigger on a Taco despite the whole 'never buy the first model year' thing, that rule has proven itself again. And though I don't like the idea of a highly-stressed turbo engine, it's the MANUAL TRANSMISSION that has failed out of the gate. I refer to service bulletin T-SB-0058-24 for the 6-speeds, in case some of you automatic transmission-owning normies aren't aware. For newer Tundra owners, even waiting two years after the redesign wasn't enough time.

I will be extremely interested in owner feedback on 24+ Tacos as the mileage goes up. I've been in research mode for weeks now, and I'm sick to death of all the Youtubers' fawning videos on how great these new trucks are and their 'exclusive' interviews with Sheldon, the chief Taco engineer, so he can explain how rough and tough they are. It's all based on their luxury junkets to Hawaii last year and the California dude ranch this year where everybody drove preproduction trucks on curated trails with a Toyota engineer riding shotgun to make sure nobody did anything crazy. Kudos to The Care Care Nut, who managed to get his video on the air in which he broke the accessory step by driving over a muddy molehill.

Must’ve been nice to have a truck as a first vehicle. I had a 25 year old bmw 5 series for a first car. Talk about electrical gremlins…

    Hello!
Yesterday I officially became a 1st Gen Tacoma owner (2001 Red SingleCab 2X4)
Here’s a small intro on this truck!
This was my father’s truck when he bought it back in 2000. He was the first owner and held on to her until 2018 when he sold it to my younger brother. Well after YEARS of asking to buy it from him, he sold it to me yesterday and today I’m here to learn and ask on how to fix it back to stock!

Now, my first car!! That’s an easy one it’s a 2014 Toyota Corolla S. I bought her a little after I finished high school and as of 2024 she is still in my possession and rolling like she just rolled off the lot!

Congrats on your Taco! I purchased my first Tacoma 2 years ago now with a base model Tacoma 2023 SR 4-cylinder, and really loved it. There's alot of great info and other enthusiasts here! The best part is making it your own!

1st truck ever and couldn't be happier.
2017 TRD Pro manual with 200k miles. It was adult driven, one owner and he had all records of maintenance available. You can barely tell it has that many miles from the body and interior.
I'm looking forward to meeting a new crowd :)
