Just got this one - it's a work in progress.....
Hi all. I'm going in for my first service on my 2016 DC SR5 4x4 LB. In addition to the standard items, what else should I get checked/done? I have already noted transmission fluid check. A flash update for the transmission? What else? Just want to make sure I don't miss anything, with so many threads out there. Thanks!

Hate to break it to you but chances are if you aren't experiencing issues that they can duplicate they are just going to rotate your tires and send you on your way. They didn't even top off my wiper fluid.

I guess I was hoping/wondering if any specific service bulletins have come out from Toyota (ie - checking/filling transmission fluid) - instead of waiting for symptoms to arise?

A TSB is only there for the techs to reference after they identify a certain problem though. It isn't a requirement like a recall is.

If it is something simple like the wind howling under the control arms they may just do it because it takes 2 minutes. You have to realize they don't get paid to diagnose a problem in this case, so they will be hesitant to spend the time properly checking the transmission fluid just because a person says they saw a TSB that states "some vehicles might...."

If they will that's great, but don't expect to show up and say "I heard some of these trucks might have low transmission fluid, howling differentials, failing CPS sensors, headunits going out, howling control arms (wind), excessive wind noise through the seals, vibrating hoods because they are separating, etc etc" and have a tech spend all day going over the truck with a fine toothed comb. At best they would say "sure we'll check everything" and make you sit there while they walk around the truck for 5 minutes after it took an hour to get space on a lift.

I'd start small and if you are actually having transmission concerns, explain your concerns and ask if they'd be willing to diagnose and reference the TSB # / check the fluid. They might or might not be willing for a 5k service, depends on the dealership.

For reference, I couldn't even get them to verify alignment or tire balance at my 5k.
