I much prefer not have to hit the breaks in a low traction situation as that's the surest way to lose traction. ABS might save you or it might not, but the best option is to let the engine slow you down.

Dude... I can't believe you passed that truck with 2 wheels on the snow and 2 on the pavement/ice. Glad everything worked out but I wouldn't do that ever again.

KO2's work great in the snow but I might add. When you are going that fast, I don't think it matters that much, right?

Deliberately engine braking on snow and ice would be a really dumb thing to do. There’s a reason you don’t use a jake brake on ice. Being in 4x4 at highway speeds is also dumb and doesn’t do anything for you other than test how good your transfer case oil is.

This is true. Sudden engine brake on slippery conditions sometimes can cause sliding and you don't have ABS to protect you at that moment. I have learned that on Dalton Hwy (and a lot more).

People think i'm joking, but in winter driving very rarely is anyone going under 65 MPH on the interstate in ND. The safety Sally's and Stewart's can armchair quarterback it all day long.

Glad you’re okay. Definitely get better tires if you can. A dedicated winter tire will outperform any all-terrain or street tire.
Throwing heavy sand bags in your bed will also help.

There is a big difference between east and west and even the plains in snow. East is a very wet and icy snow. Slick. West is a very dry snow. Not so slick or icy. Plains is a combo. In addition, curvy interstate back east. Not so much in the plains.
Lastly is slush. I have driven 65 mph on snowpack and straight interstates many many times. No big deal. However, when it is part snow, part slush and ice and part wet, you pretty much have to be an idiot to drive 65 in slush. Don't care what type od tires or traction control aids you have, as evidenced by the countless vehicles in the median or up against the guardrail.
TLDR... I don't care how anyone drives because Darwin always sorts it out. But if I see someone being stupid, i stay as far away as possible.

I drove for 40 years in WV mountains. You never had snow without ice and slush because the water content is so high. Add to that constant elevation changes and almost zero straight stretches, driving 65 on snow covered roads would be suicide.

if you’re not using your 4x4 in conditions that slick you’re being silly. 4x4 doesn’t bind in straight lines, and the surface is more than loose enough to allow the drivetrain to “unwind”

I’m guessing you haven’t driven at highway speeds on very much ice, because rear wheel drive can get all Ken Block real quick like

that’s why you don’t see many 2wd trucks in alaska, and why front wheel drive is so popular.
