Hi guys, I bought my tacoma from a friend of mine to use as a daily driver but I also want to be able to hit the trails. However my vehicle and trail knowledge is very limited, I am hoping to learn as much as I can from you guys. Where do I start? What should I invest in first, bumpers, suspension, sliders?

Welcome to TW nice 1st gen.
Armor or suspension. Just remember if you do suspension 1st it will sag with bumper skids sliders... so when you get your suspension set it up with heavier springs. ..

:woot: Welcome fellow 1st gen owner!

I'd go with suspension/lift first. The stock suspensions are notoriously weak.
Your headlights are looking a little foggy too. If you want to start with a smaller project I'd start there

    Welcome new TW'er!

    Nice 1st gen truck.

IMO, where you start is wholly dependent upon your budget. Sliders on your stock suspension/truck will do wonders in terms of protection. And it's a fraction of the cost of a new suspension (if done right). This alone would be great for your truck as you begin to venture off road.

Then the suspension and bumpers will come.

If you do beefier bumpers, you no doubt have to upgrade the suspension or else the truck will ride poorly. Just something to consider.
