Finally got some time off to deal with my problem that Toyota refuses to own up on.

I have an 07, but my VIN puts the production date late in 2006, so it was roughly 5-6 months old off the production line.

When I bought my truck new off the lot, I had the optional rust-proofing done...and according to the local customer care hotline the dealership provided to me, they only rust-proof certain things (like door hinges, gas cap lid, etc) which is useless...I thought they sprayed everything since it takes 2 days for that process..

learned my lesson, don't get the optional rust proofing...it seems like Servco here won't discuss the details of their contract for the rust-proofing and won't do anything on your(buyer) behalf in dealing with them.

    Pictures below are from yesterday.

Picked up some OSPHO since POR-15 is not that available.

seems like the outer channel is corroded and the inner channel is somewhat intact. I'm also able to pull off some decent sized flakes by hand, about the size of a Quarter.

I'll have some updates pics later on for the 'after treatment'

    Cheers

Do you drive on the beach, near the ocean, etc.?

I live about a 1/2 mile from the ocean...at any given time i'm within 2 miles of the ocean.

I've driven on sand maybe 4 times(i'm not big on the beach thing)

The part I don't really understand is I have a coworker with an 06 with the same rust-proofing done and his truck has zero rust. Our work parking lot is 100ft from the ocean.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
That really sucks, but in reality, there is no such thing as rust proof when it comes to steel. That protective stuff wears off with the years. I need to get under mine and check it out, not sure if they automatically "rust proof" vehicles sold here up north or not. Thankfully, Montana isn't big on road salt.

That is barely any rust. No big deal you are getting at it early. That is no where close to how frames get in the salt belt.

wirebrush and some spray paint. take your time and just do it whenever you have time. It is not that bad. when done spray with wd-40 this will help prevent further rust. 2 big cans should be suffecient.

You should sandblast that and give it a good coat of some primer that has zinc in it and then paint over with several coats.
