My friend doesn't think his car gets warmed enough to work and will break down sooner

I'll tell you I tried that crap driving right after startup-I do NOT like the way it 'feels' running that motor bone cold, ECU or not. Hell-the tranny wont even shift into 3rd till that needle has budged! A 3-4 minute warmup is not overkill-it aint killing anyone-to each his own. If you want to put that kind of load on your motor when it's cold knock yourself out!:rockband:

"My buddy lives about 1 mile from work..."

Don't worry about the truck by solving the problem: I live 'about a mile from workl' and I walk almost every day. It saves me money on my insurance in addition to the obvious savings in vehicle wear and gas.

If it's not stainless then the vehicle is old enough that he shouldn't be worrying about it.

Gotta read the whole thread. The car in question goes a mile to the "office" and then drives around to sales appointments all day.

Soft throttle and the driving after he'es done at the office is more then enuf to keep the engine in fine shape. He should change oil more often (as mentions above) because of the potential for water to build (VERY slowly) in the oil.

Tell your friend to drive on.
