I say let him alone. Make sure to take care of yourself those are some serious injuries that will affect you for the rest of your life. You sound to be an entirely too nice individual. People will try and take advantage of you, unfortunately so will your so called friends. Cut him loose and enjoy your self.

This. You got a different lot in life than he did.
The asking you to help move while you were in a wheelchair thing comes off a bit weird- but I've hung around with friends doing things I couldn't while injured-Wheel chair doesn't mean you can't flip burgers and hang out with him.
I think you might be getting a bit over-offended about some stuff...but if it bugs you that much-Bail out.

Workers comp has covered all of my medical crap, which is payment enough. They're giving me 60% of my pay, which is hard, but better than no paycheck. I might get a disability check in the future based on the loss of mobility in my arm (I can't straighten it or twist it palm up anymore). I'm not planning on suing anyone, as far as I'm concerned, the ladder wasn't safe but I'm the one who climbed it without fall protection.

The whole thing sucks. And while it seems he is just spending money because he can and just being an asshole, he probably isn't very happy deep down and that is not something to envy. One day everything he has right now will be gone. What he has was given to him, he didn't work for it, and he didn't put the effort into it, and he didn't learn anything along the way. When all of that (family support, house, marriage) is gone, he won't know how to rebuild it because he never built it in the first place. There is nothing to envy in that. Sounds like its time to cut him loose. It's hard, I just lost my best friend of over ten years because his stupid girlfriend and I don't get along (he chose bro's before hoes, they always do) and while it hurts it's just something that had to be done.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you are doing better.

You're right, you'd think the hanging out would take place over at my house (we live about 5 minutes from eachother) being chair-bound and everything, but I get it.

The reason why he asked for my help is because he needed to move some stuff to the dump with my truck, they both have cars and would have had to make multiple trips. When I went over there, he spent the majority of the time on the phone and his wife started telling me about how much back pain she was having from her pregnancy (at the time, she was about 2 months along). She was telling this to ME, someone who had just broken their SPINE. It's hilarious.

Thanks everyone for the support. For the jealousy remarks, too. I suppose I came off as sounding jealous. I just cant help but be jealous of someone who is given a home to live in and a wedding when I've been busting my ass to be able to do either. It just sucks, my girlfriend are truly in love, he's married to a person he got pregnant after telling me she was "too fat and and ugly" to date. I mean god damn it!

Well get use to it. People use people for personal gain, it's a part of life. Sucks to no end. Not everyone can be the nice guy. Just grin and bare it. True friends know when they cross the line, if not then point it out to them. JMHO;)

The best part is, you don't really have to do anything if you ditch his ass...actually less. No calls, questions, anything, just more free time.

In most every family there are two types of people-the givers and the takers. I consider your friend there a taker. Once these assholes get a taste of generosity from the givers around them, they look at that generosity as entitlement.
Far as all these guys in here saying you are jealous of his "better" life-I disagree. I believe from what you said in here, the dedication in this friendship weighed heavier on your end-IE you are the better friend. One visit to you in the hospital? Fucked up. Asking you to help him move shit as you are trying to heal a back operation? Selfish. Cut this jackass loose. You don't need him.

You are 23, so having this friend "since high school" is not all that long unless you don't have many good friends in the first place. Anyway, you knew he was an asshole right up front so this recent behavior was just a matter of time. I agree with what others have said, ditch the douche. It is your right to choose what kind of people you have in your life with the possible exception of your blood family, and even then you can choose not to associate with them unless it's really necessary (holidays, birthdays, etc). Life is too short to waste on worthless people.

tint, I race motorcycles therefore I have no time for this stuff.
I broke my pelvis back in 2006. I was in the hospital for months. One of my friends got his hair cut at the barbershop and told OUR friend the barber. He came and saw me once a week. Now we are really good friends. That accident helped me see who my friends were and who said they were my friend. Be glad you are alive and live everyday to the fullest.
