They fixed the trans cooler with a new part and extended warranties on all old units. The rest I am not sure on.

When I was comparison shopping, the Taco's better depreciation meant monthly lease payments were significantly lower.

There was a recall and back dated warranty that covered anyone who paid out of pocket... full reimbursement.

Extended the warranty to 80K. But that still left a lot of folks out especially those that had '05 to '07s. I had an '06 and I was glad to get rid of it. Felt like I had a ticking time bomb. Granted I only had an issue with the FSU while I had the truck. I would never go back to a 2nd gen Frontier.

Wow, just saw this 2012 comparison link from another thread:

    http://special-reports.pickuptrucks.com/2012/01/2012-midsize-shootout-track-day.html

Dang Tacoma's braking was incredibly superior. Even at 37 lbs torque on the u-bolts ;). The Taco wins 5 out of 11 categories, 2nd or 3rd in the remaining 6 categories. Not that much of a surprise I guess.

I think that is because the Frontier is significantly heavier and the Tacoma has a lighter bed. The TRD OR also has progressive front coils making them stiffer over small bumps but better at handling rough offroad terrain.

AGREED. Although extras aren't NEEDED to sell their vehicles, they apparently help speed up and increase the amount of vehicles they sell.

True, IMO, the tacoma looks better, but IMO the nissans aren't the ugliest trucks. By todays automotive looks, the colorado is ugly, maybe the ugliest truck IMO.

interesting. how much do the tacoma beds weigh? also, what kind of front coils are on the frontier? obviously not progressive.

I have own both platforms(a 2011 Tacoma, and a 2009 Xterra, same frame, suspension, well, except SUA in the rear, but very similar)...both were good vehicles, did everything I asked of them, very often more than they should have been expected to do.

The huge beef I have with Nissan is about customer service/suport/warrenty type problems. For instance, the IPDM was known to be bad, causing all sorts of issues, among others frying the ECM and not starting, kinda serious stuff, not just Check Engine light on...yet they did nothing to fix or rectify these problems. Nissan is kinda notorious about it, on various Nissan forums like this. The IPDM(which they did end up fixing, with a new relay, but several years after the problem, after I sold my Xterra), the radiator was known to cause blown transmission(how they routed the lines, causing leakage, ultimately transmission goes boom), the front diff was known to blow up...a bunch of crap. SO FAR...thats the key here I guess, I have seen much better warrenty/customer care support from Toyota...I mention this point(it may have been said, but I didnt read through 12 pages, lol) because ultimately it just comes down to syling preference, for me, for the newer Tacoma's vs the newer Frontiers. My buddy pointed out that Toyota has TONS of TSB's, so it must be crap...I said no, they just admit and fix the problems, a solid answer in my book. The capabilities/ features/etc, are all very similar on both trucks. Sure, if you try to compare a 4-banger std cab Taco vs a loaded crew cab Fronty, yup, the Taco will probably get significantly better mileage, etc. But all in all, buyer preference to me, and I've owned both platforms.

my girlfriend drives a 2005 frontier LE with 93,000 miles on it. Still drives as tight as ever! My colorado(traded it in for my tacoma) was falling apart at 78,000 miles, suspension rattling, etc.... lol

I love her frontier! But I like my tacoma better.

You know what they say, Each to their own. =)

Yup. My Chevy 3500HD Dually rides like a Cadillac and pulls my 39' fifth wheel around like a toothpick. I bought THAT truck for luxury. Bought my Tacoma for the real world. I've never heard any of my girl friends say, "Wow, check out that hot guy that drives a NISSAN"... EVER.

They're the skinny jeans of mid-size trucks. Only fairy boys rock 'em. :drevil:

What year is it? 1st gen's used torsion bars, newer, 2nd gens had coil overs. I don't even know if they made "NISMO" edition 1st gens, come to think of it. But 2nd gens have basically the same suspension as the newer xterra's, same concept as Tacoma's.

Around here the Nissans are all rusted around the tail gate, bumpers and wheel wells after a few years.

The frontiers are good trucks... IMO - I bought my son a 2011 SE dbl cab... more standard features than toyota bought the extended warranty so I know it'll be reliable to 100K!
