I was wanting a small safe for the rare occasion I have to lock something of value up, and didn't want to drop the dough for a console vault. I found this
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003841ZBS/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_mZBLvb5T16Y5F
at a local pawn shop for $30. It fits perfectly behind the back seats in that little cubby behind the passenger seat. I just looped the security cable through the child seat anchor point. I know it's nothing new or exciting, but I thought I'd share.image.jpg

what’s there to update? It’s a cheap lockbox attached with a cable. I have something very similar under my drivers seat.

Works great to deter a smash and grab but the cables are pretty easily defeated with a good pair of wire cutters so you need to have realistic expectations.

You’re not going to believe this but the DHS, CIA, FBI, and the Army have all contacted me asking if they can use this design in their own vehicles.

Seeing as I work for a government agency, does that mean I was checking in on myself?

You know what I like about this? Everything.

First and foremost, whenever a crackhead does a smash and grab, where do they look first? Glovebox, console, floorboards, and if the car is isolated, maybe the trunk. What are the odds of them taking the time to observe that unlike most trucks, the Tacoma has folding rear storage? So already the out-of-sight aspect is a win.

Know what I hate about the expensive console safe? Also everything. It takes up so much space. It's also the very first place a thief is going to look. They have already bypassed one locked barrier to get to this point, so what's stopping them from attacking the second lock? They are going to either take a pry bar to it or just go full gorilla-shit, rocking that thing back and forth until they shear the two bolts and run off with the entire central section of your truck. To a thief's mind, a locked safe equals treasure. And now you just gave them reason to continue ransacking.

So I'm of the opinion that your 30 buck solution is the superior choice.

I would be surprised if it was a real govt agency like the USDA. Try again. Do not pass go or collect $200

Do you have any pictures of your configuration?
