My dual 12V auxiliary power outlets (one's a cigarette lighter) aren't working. I drive a 2008 Crew Cab Tacoma and it's perfect and flawless except for this one little thing... which sucks because those outlets power my GPS and iPod adapter and I'm heading out on a long road trip!

    Any ideas?

I second the motion on the fuse(s). Check the 12v adapters (plug in parts) of the devices you use. I had a Sirius Sat. adapter that I thought was in good working order. The thing quit working one day. Looked at the fuse, SNAP!!!. Come to find out the adapter was shorting out. I used the 12v ports in my Dad's truck to diagnose and I smoked the fuse(s) there too. I changed the fuse again, bought a new adapter and all is well.

I'm assuming something went bad because I constantly swapped the adapter in and out between the BIG truck and the 'Coma.

Im almost 100% that its the fuse. I was on a road trip from San Diego to Canada and was using a spot light to help where needed... Mine went out and luckily i found a dealer right off the 1 at the California/Oregon cause I had no idea where a shop would be.. They hooked up 2 fuses and i was on my way! good luck

I also have an '08, and have found that my power outlet main switch controls my lighter outlets too. Hope this helps. The switch (actually a button) is marked with AC 115V.

One other thing to check - Those outlets only work when the key is in the ignition and switched to the "ON" position. If you are checking them while the car is parked and not running, they will not work.

It was the fuses. Luckily the fuse box in the Tacoma is very well organized and easy to access, and it even came with tweezers and spare fuses!

Glad you found it. But now that you've used the spare, don't forget to stop somewhere and buy some so you'll have spares again.

Ummm, just curious, but why did you need a spot-light on a road trip?? About the only thing they get used for around here is poaching!
