Sux man & pretty salty on $. I'd wait. For whatever reason I go through more windshields than wiper blades (really). I put 3 in my 2012 taco in the 29 months I owned it & 4 in the 2010 taco in 36 months. The 2014 T4R is cracked but not in my sight line yet so it's staying for a while....

If rocks are perpetually hitting your window you are probably riding the ass of the person in front of you too often. Create a buffer. I've never chipped a windshield because I keep adequate space between me and other cars.

Ya not the case here at all so probably not in my case...tho that seems to be a false consensus on TW.

I'm the guy in the right lane looking straight ahead going the speed limit or less. I get rocks flipped up from both oncoming traffic and from those who pass me going the same direction.

That sucks I've had that happen before so I know some insurance companies will wave the deductible for windsields.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
That's about the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on TW. Do you only travel when there is no traffic? How do you keep the trucks away from you? Do you not pass cars in either direction? Do you not drive on the freeway? Are there not semi trucks where you live? Have you ever driven on a dirt road with oncoming traffic? These are things you have no control over, but you're trying to tell us that your driving habits are so much better than ours. Get over yourself.
Where I live the semis go as fast or faster than I do, there are gravel plants and gravel trucks all around, there are construction vehicles and people who drive on dirt roads, all of these cause broken windshields.
All your post tells me is that you've driven very few miles in these conditions.

That's my deal man. I'm anything but an aggressive or tailgating driver but, I've had a few different people on TW suggest my windshields get cracked because I tailgate. Odd to me since that's pretty much has NEVER been the case in any of the number of times I've caught a rock.

I have Auto Owners Insurance with a relatively high deductible. But, I bought windshield coverage (not required in AL) which costs me approx. $25 per year per vehicle and that coverage replaces your windshield with no "out-of-pocket" costs. We also have a Lexus RX350 and a windshield for that damn car (wife's vehicle) makes the $700 - $800 for an OEM Tacoma windshield seem like a bargain.

When that rock hit, I actually had to look for where it came from. Midnight on the freeway and the closest car was about 500ft in front of me in a different lane...

I had a crack in my 1989 S-10 blazer that ran from the rear-view mirror across to the driver's side.
After less than 1,000 miles on my brand new 1996, I had a rock hit in the same place at the rear-view mirror and the crack slowly grew and essentially followed the same path across the window .
It's still there :D. Along with several other rock chips, and lots of pitting. But whatever, it's a 20 year old truck.

It's always painful when it happens to something new. I 1/2 expect [Naw, make that 4 to 1 odds] that it will happen again to my 2016. Sorry it happened to you, OP.

In South Carolina that is no deductible for windshields? Are you sure you have to pay it?

Hate to say anything. You know, jinx and everything! But after 8+ years in my current Tacoma I've yet to have a rock chip or a cracked windshield -- knock on wood at least three times!

Not sure about other places but here in Arizona auto insurance companies have to replace cracked windshields at no out of pocket cost or raise in premiums to the insured motorist.
