BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Contact Safelite or your local glass company and see if and when they're having an employee training day and get your windshield replaced for free

I debadged it, had to work a whole bunch and put on a K&N in time to deploy. Now my wife controls the money and hopefully I have enough when I get back to get her washed. Soooo... mods are in progress?
I went through 4 windshields in three weeks. They put an aftermarket on my taco and it was warped, showing distortions at the corners and passenger edge. They had a name for it, but claimed it was just bad manufacturing.

Second one, same thing. Third was a diff manufacturer, and guess what... same thing!

I was able to convince my insurance company that I, due to an eye condition, was overly sensitive to curvature of the glass. On aftermarkets you can actually see it concave vs convex on the corners, creating weird reflection. They paid for the OEM as a result.

Bottom line, talk to your insurance, it may be possible. Also, don't settle, not even for the water channels. Aftermarket glass, though built to the minimum spec, is absolute cheap garbage.

Just put in a call to AAA, pretty decent chip in the windshield while driving up Hwy 880 through San Leandro in the Bay Area (horrible road conditions/repair state and a *lot* of trucks). Requested glass ordered from Toyota. I have a $50 deductible and apparently due to my membership level get a $50 credit 1x/year on windshield stuff.

Let's see how long it takes for it to get ordered.

I use a glass shop just down the street, never been a fan of the mobile safelight guys after a botched job on a Civic many years ago.

It will be there within a couple of days. Every corner of the US falls into a toyota 'region'. Each 'region' has it's own glass. Glad you got the good deal too. It took me some trial and error to figure it out LOL. That aftermarket stuff sucks!

In Alabama it comes under your deductible unless you have the additional windshield rider (unless my Auto Owners Insurance agent is f***ing me:notsure:). My daughter lives in Florida and, like South Carolina, there is no deductible for windshields.

For me on AAA in CA, windshield is covered under comprehensive. I keep a $50 deductible there because I'm ok with over insuring.

Here the general insurance idea is this: repairs to a windshield (when possible, chips or stars) are covered, free of charge and have no deductible. Replacement is treated as a non responsible accident, much like vandalism. They will not increase your premiums on a once in a lifetime event, but try to claim twice and things change. I will try to see if I can get a "side insurance" that would cover this. Maybe through a CAA or a motor club association.

Aftermarket is a non issue since it does not exist yet for a 2016. Dealers only!

Well I decided to bite the bullet and get it replaced. I did managed to get a good deal at the dealership and it won't last forever so they will do it next week. Just wondering if the new one comes with a GoPro mount? I don't need one, so I wont reinstall it if possible.

OP, don't feel too bad. Mine was cracked worse than that within the first 6 months of ownership. I've had the aftermarket on longer than the original glass. Yes, it sucks. But what can you do?

Gee nobody here knows that. I thought I lost my windshield the other day in town. A guy went by me going about 60KPH and flew a rock into my windshield. I was going about 60KPH in the opposite direction. The rock made a hellava bang but the glass held. Coming back from Pr. George in my old 4Runner a pickup went by me going about 130KPH - 150KHP. He got at least a half a mile ahead of me when bang a rock the size of a golf ball came bouncing down the highway. I saw it at the last minute. Smacked a major chip which eventually ran across the windshield. I wish it was as easy as you suggest. Up here the local road contractor uses gravel for sand I swear.

I don't have the invoice in front of me, I had a $50 deductible. Glass from the dealer was ~$900. I used a local place affiliated with AAA.

I read somewhere on TW that the new windshields on 3rd gens have some sort of extra sound dampening technology that is causing them to crack easier.

    Can anyone confirm this??

Did they order the toyota windshield or was it an aftermarket one?

My colleagues in CO are always talking about cracked windshields. It just comes with the territory in certain areas.

My Travelers insurance has a separate windshield coverage deductible. I though that was pretty neat when I switched to them and took a low deductible on that despite high deductible for collision, comp, etc.

You don't have glass coverage under your insurance policy?!?!

I can 1-up you...I got my windshield busted on my 2006 Forester, bought it brand new and hadn't made a payment yet and the windshield got smashed with a rock on the interstate. In Colorado you best carry glass coverage. I've had to replace quite a few windshields when I lived out there. Pretty much every car I've owned while living in Colorado had to have the windshield replaced at some point.

It was direct from Toyota. For one, given the age of the truck, I insisted upon it. There was no push back from AAA.

Your premium should not increase for a windshield replacement, and if it does you have the wrong insurance. I've replaced several windshields over the years and also been in probably three accidents, one of them was my fault and my premiums have NOT gone up. My insurance actually went DOWN after buying the Tacoma, which didn't make sense to me coming from a 2012 4cyl. Subaru Outback.

I also have a $250 comp & collision deductible and $0 for theft and vandalism, $0 for glass replacement. My insurance is with Allstate. I pay maybe a couple hundred more a year compared to going to a $1,000 or $500 deductible, but it's already proven it's paid for itself over the last several years.
