Ok, for those who did not read the original thread, my windshield got cracked and replaced before I got 5000miles on the truck. Original story here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-invincible-new-truck-is-not-invincible-anymore.411390/

I thought it was all in the past. WRONG!

A couple weeks after the windshield replacement we had a downpour. Rain was coming in the truck from the passenger front pilar and falling on my wife's knees. Got back to the dealer. They said the seal was not done properly so they did it again.

    Over? Wrong again!

Next rainy day, water was dripping from the ceiling of the truck this time on the passenger side. Worse than the first time. They said they probably did something wrong when they installed the windshield, so they ordered a new one and replaced it again. All free of charge.

    Done? I wish.

So yesterday we had yet another solid downpour. This morning when I came in the truck I noticed water on the rubber mat on the passenger side. Touched the carpet, it was wet. When I got to the dealer we took the side trim off and saw that the undermat was gorged with water as far as we could see. Dealer took the truck in and lended me a Scion POS. He said he was probably going to replace the undercarpet, take all the plastic off, dry everything, and find the leak. More on that tomorrow.

Now I think I'm a very patient man. However, the inside of the truck was at least damp for all the last three months. I do not trust that it will not develop rust, mildew or electric problems in the future. Since it is not a from a Toyota problem but from a dealer bad repair problem, what do you think would be the best course of action? If you work at a dealer your imput would be of great value. Do I get a chance to exchange my new baby? Maybe some form of extended warranty?

Anyone in for a wetsuit group buy?

I'm gonna have to concur with Smitty on this. Find a friend who's a lawyer or hire one to "discuss" this with the service manager and get everything in writing.

I had a brand new retractable hardtop Miata in 2009. Took home to find severely leaking after wash.

I took to dealer and they "couldn't replicate."

I said I won't take delivery till they did a full water hose test with me present

Service manager, me, porter took garden hose did the whole test

Full carpet, dash, all were wet.

Dealer kept car 42 days, while waiting for parts from Japan. Replaced it all

I picked it up, leaking still.

    Lemon law . Done.

Is that even possible since the original damage was done by a rock and this is a repair now? The truck wasn't delivered defective.

OP I hope they get this sorted out for you!

You are correct , this isn't a lemon law issue...

This goes to liability of the windshield repair company

I would go after the insurance of the repair company and get enough compensation for a new truck.

Did you or your insurance pay for the original windshield replacement?

Everybody is stating "lemon law". I might be uneducated, but is there an actual law for this?
I do live North of the border.

Lemon laws vary state to state out here, I have no idea what they are in Canada but in California it's something to the effect of if you're vehicle has to undergo the same repair a certain number of times within a certain time frame, it qualifies as a lemon and you are entitled to a buyback or the like. I'm sure others on here are more familiar with it.

I was joking but I doubt it since it was a repair because of damage

Like you mentioned, your beef is with the quality of the dealer installed winshield. I would talk to them again and ask nicely if they can comp you some extra warranty or something in writing regarding wet carpets.

Yes, it is possible the leak is directly related to the replacement windshield. However if they can not find the cause of the leak, then how in the world can they say why it leaks or who is responsible?
I know this sounds kind of silly, but it is an iron clad way to stop them from wiggling out of responsibility. Can't find the cause? Then you can't make a statement as to why it leaks, which they are trying to do as a way to divert responsibility. Even if it 100% the fault of the window replacement company, it's still on the dealer. you took it to the dealer and he sub-contracted the work out. Do not under estimate the importance of that fact. Did you sign a work authorization order at the dealership?

This is in no way covered under the Lemon Law, it isn't a defective vehicle it is a defective repair.

Damn, I understand that on a forum you're most likely to hear only the worst stories, but there have been a boat load of bad 3rd gen tales like this. I think i'm going to stay away from any and all 2016's, hopefully Toyota gets their s**t together and the 2017's are better.

With this one, I don't understand how a Safelite guy can show up in my driveway and do a trouble free windshield replacement but a DEALER can't manage to do the same thing? That's just unacceptable no matter what year your vehicle is!

I had horrible leaking from a replacement windshield...

I had the windshield replaced in my 05 Tacoma after it was cracked from a rock on the highway. The Safe lite repair guy ended up doing a shitty job and completely fucking up the urethane sealant on the install (he was in a hurry). Anytime it rained here in Florida I would get a puddle on the drivers side after the replacement.

Long story short I ended up with another cracked windshield had another replacement installed, this time I told the safe lite guy (a different technician this time) about the leaking and made sure he completely removed all the old dried urethane sealant before he applied the new sealant. Never had another leak.

Just sharing my experience... for what its worth.
