Pretty sure I went 5/8" plywood. The cross members do the majority of the weight bearing. It is very solid.

I have a different cap now and no longer use the sleeping platform because I mounted a fridge back there. Had a rood top tent for a while and sold it this week. I'm going back to a ground tent setup.

Thought I'd add these videos in case others are looking at camping in the back of their Tacoma.

Thanks for this thread man! Great idea that i might be bumming off you in a few months. Seems more reasonable than a RTT price wise and gives you some ability to still use the bed for hauling stuff. Did you have any issues with it supporting your weight?

No problem holding my weight at all. Though my setup has changed quite a bit. I've added a fridge and fridge slide to the bed of the truck, so I had to re-build the platform around where I have the fridge mounted. I also added some pieces so that I can remove the fridge, and slide in a platform piece to cover that area.

For camping, I have a ground tent, a hammock, and as of Friday I have a hard shell roof top tent. I like having options. :yay:

When you get a chance could you post some pictures of your fridge set up. I’m thinking of getting one eventually.

How about a video tour. Unfortunately, it's Winter and I do not have the fridge in the truck currently (it's 15 degrees outside).

i know, old thread. i'm going to give this a try, but add a leg to the cross boards on a hinge. have you tried to camp with 2 adults to see how it holds up to the weight?

My wife and spent 2 weeks in our leer 180 mid rise top cap on a very comfortable bed Using a platform to store camping gear underneath. No complaints
