Attached are pics of the process in case anyone was interested.

I started with a rusted out muffler, got a replacement from a junkyard, used a wire wheel to clean it up and then used high temp paint to protect it. Then I attached the "new" muffler on to the existing exhaust system with a soup can, 3 worm gear clamps (hose clamps) and muffler sealing compound. So far it has been wonderfully quiet and I no longer have a check engine light on.

Yep. That is definitely a redneck muffler repair. Did the same thing myself when I was a broke high school kid, minus the black paint. Keep in mind that your connection won't have the structural integrity or the longevity of using real parts, though.

For about $10 you could have bought a proper coupler and proper exhaust clamps at any auto store.

I already had a can and hose clamps so those were "free" the muffler cost me $40. Paint and muffler sealer were $10 total.

I'll buy a proper coupler when this breaks.
