OK guys and girls, after over a year lurking around on the forum, reading and asking questions I did it!! I Picked up my brand new 2017 Tacoma Limited 4X4 in Super White Yesterday afternoon. Amazingly it came in 6 days after I placed my order. I traded in my Silverado 2500 HD Diesel with only 39,000 miles on it.

It was a great truck and someone got a great vehicle with lots of extras but I just didn't need anything that big and I wanted something my wife would drive.

But, back to the Tacoma. The dealership was great to deal with and after several hours of signing many forms it was out to the vehicle. I didn't have many questions since this forum has already provided me with abundant info so it was off to the highway.

This is my first Toyota and I am a senior having always been a car/truck lover so now That I have my first 100 miles in a Toyota I have a few first impressions.

The vehicle odo. read 4 miles when I left the dealership and after around 10 miles of making my way through the city the average fuel economy read 19.1 mpg.

I read a lot of pros and cons about the transmission but overall I really like it. The shifts are smooth and crisp and although it quickly got in high gear in city traffic it willingly downshifted with a touch of the throttle.

I merged onto the interstate and set the cruise on 65 which is the posted speed limit and settled in for the 75 miles of interstate driving ahead. Traffic was relatively light so I got to play with the touch screen a little finding it quite responsive.

I was a little anxious about the fuel economy so I scrolled down to check it using the steering wheel buttons and it was up to 21.6 which looked promising. My Silverado diesel would easily get 23 to 24 mpg at highway and I was really hoping for the rated 23 from the Tacoma. To make a long story short it kept increasing all the way home and when I exited the interstate it was reading exactly 25.0 mpg. I made my way home (about 4 miles with 4 stop lights and 1 stop sign) and my first hundred miles average was 24.9. Needless to say I was elated. I don't know what brand or octane level gas the dealership used but I plan on finding out.

Driving impressions are about as expected. A little more body roll than I like in moderate cornering but hey, its a truck. I did test drive a TRD sport which was more to my liking but considering the overall features I had to go with the limited. I really missed my 6 way power seats trying to find the most comfortable seating position but realistically I seldom used them after initial set-up.

My first to do item will be to find something to put on the arm rest on the door that is softer. It could be the difference in seating position or the height of the arm rest but it hurts my humerus. I also had the same problem with an RV I owned and a piece of lambswool took care of the issue.

Bottom line... i think it it is going to be a great truck.

Thanks for all the info I gleaned from the forum. I will try to return favor as I become more familiar with my first "TACO".

Your mpg should improve with a little more miles. My off-road 4X4 will easily get the 23mpg at 65mph on a flat road with no significant head wind. The EPA mpg numbers are calculated over a 10.26 mile simulation with an average speed of 48.3mph and a peak speed of 60mph.

Congrads on your truck. I had mine for a week TRD OR and the best mpg I have thus far is 19.3.

Try the ECT button it provides a jolt in the acceleration. Any way happy trails

Here are a few shots. It is very cloudy and tropical rain is on its way tomorrow so it will be a few days before I can get any better ones.
