After it seems like a long time coming I finally nailed down the design for my new garage build. I have a 1.5 car attached garage that is filled to the gills now and this will allow me to free that space up and park the rest of the rigs inside while giving me a nice place to work on them.

I am having a pole barn company come and do the major construction do to my lack of spare time I have to work on it; but I will be running the water, gas, electric, and finishing interior on my own. Spec'd out a 30'x60'x14' finished space with a 10'x30' lean to. It will have two 12'x12' garage doors on the gable end a smaller 9'Wx8'H garage door towards the back.

The plan is to add a 2 post lift once the concrete is poured and eventually a small loft that runs the span of the 30' width to be able to store some larger stuff up top and out of the way to try and utilize the ceiling height. I've got 3 trucks to store in there for now, my tacoma and two 4runners that will be getting chopped up once the garage is built, along with my Kubota tractor and my lawn mowing equipment.

Here's a couple shots of the layout and where it's going

Over the next couple of weeks I have to level and grade the area and specify where the barn will be set, construction is tentatively set to start on 6/22. Any tips and pointers along the way would be much appreciated, I've read alot on garage journal and talked to several companies before making my final decision on the size and what I plan to use it for, I'm sure I'll regret not going bigger though :bananadead:

    Thanks!

Made a little progress today. Removed some trees and trimmed up some of the brush where the garage will be going, and I gained back about 5' on my property line :D

Got a chance to use one of my new toys as well :)

Started chopping, these were pretty badly overgrown

Space regained, I am putting the side of the garage around 14' from the side of my property line which will line it up with the existing house lines

That saw looks like it would do some serious cutting. Mine is on its last leg. We have a green dump here which will take trees, brush, etc., for free, grind it and give away the mulch, which is nice.

Yeah it has some nice power. I'm only on the 2nd tank of gas for it and I've read it only gets better after 5-6 tanks are run through it. My township is set up the same way, drop them off at the dump and they will grind them up for me.

Haha thanks man, been a long time coming and saving money up.

Thanks, I'll have to browse over there when I get some spare time.

Another toy showed up today that should help with digging the trench for the utilities and grading the surface

check out Garage Journal as well. Might be worth your while to figure out the model of lift you are looking for and plan in the footings for it now before you have the garage slab put in (keeps ya from having to dig them out later). many times they'll require reinforced footings and trying to rebar those in a smaller area might be a pain.

Thanks, lookin at the atlas PV10P. I plan on making the depth where the lift is going several inches thicker to support the weight of the lift.

    Definitely!

What anchors are you talking about, for the lift? Everything I read is that you drill the holes and anchor them after the concrete slab is poured

Very nice! As I get older getting tired of working on vehicles on the cold floor, work smarter not harder :D

Made a little progress today, removed the top layer of grass and next up will be shooting some elevations and finish grading.

I would do a 4 post lift. Much safer to work on and you can use it to store a car on one day.

My old shop had anchor pots in the floor for straightening frames and such. I never used them, but it would probably be nice to add.

    Pulling post are anchor pots.

I went round and round deciding on what lift. I figured I would be doing way more work were the wheels needed to be removed. 4 post lifts require an on board jack to get the wheels off the base.

I'm glad I opted for the 2 post. 90% of the work involves brakes or tires. Oil changes and chassis lubes is only a small amount of time compared to the rest.

For what I do I think the 2 post lift will be much more useful. In the future I may get one of those 4 post lifts with a caster kit so I could move it around the shop.

Exactly, that was my thought process, thanks for the insight.

Got a little more work done, shot some elevations last week, looks like my ground where the garage will be is roughly 1' below the finished grade of my driveway by the house. If I add 4" or so of crushed stone and 4" of concrete that will bring the finished floor of the garage 4" below the the driveway at my house, should be fine for how far it is away.

Cleaned up around the house, finding the little kubota is pretty useful and saving my back from carrying heavier shit around :D
