There are posts on 4G Tacoma saying the estimated range is overly conservative with a 50-80 mile reserve. So the range is actually good. Roughly 350 miles.

OP: this looks really good - let us know how they’re working out in terms of mpg and if it impacts power significantly, stopping distance, etc.

OP: any sense for how stiff the back springs are? I’m thinking of putting a 200lb decking system in there (the one you posted). Wondering if you think that’ll cause sag.

I know this OME setup on the TH was targeting load but with all the extra weight it already has on it I wasn’t sure.

If you took off the sliders and the mcfly bar you’d be in at 1500 pounds payload capacity - the truck can carry a lot, it’s just pre-loaded

You mean the bull bar can be removed but the corner brackets remain? Interesting. That’s a good idea if it leaves room for attaching a bed cover.

That is good to hear, the 18 gallon is doable but would be nice to have a little more, filled up my 3rd Gen this morning, got 368 out of the last tank, computer said it had 19 miles left. Filled with 18.1 gallons. So still had 3 gallons left.

Makes sense, listening to Sheldon Brown stating the TH was going to have 1700 lbs payload, just assumed that was with all the add ons, because it basically comes fully optioned out from the factory, right?

I am not making excuses for Toyota or Sheldon. The 1700 lb figure was bullshit. I am just saying that the platform is definitely more robust than the 3G and can hold a lot of weight but with the battery and all the other add ons there’s not much more to go with a curb weight of 5400 lb. So.. yeah… at the end of the day it comes out the same which isn’t useful to most folks unless you start tearing stuff out.

Nor you should, he is almost as bad as seatbelt Mike.

Do like the platform, and liking what I see overall, looks burly. Wonder how many parts are shared with the HiLux? Stumbled upon a thread with a couple traveling the world in a 3G Tacoma, they seem to be able to get parts out of the US. Traveling around the world is on the list.

Another theory I had is the truck can hold 1700lb on top of all the accessories … but the transmission can’t handle it … just a theory

Hilux and all the stuff the rest of the world gets are superior work grade trucks

That is a good theory, isn’t the trans the same in that they use HiLux with different ratios.

They do, was wondering if taking a 4th Gen on a round the world trip would be doable. The TH is basically ready to go off the shelf, toss a camper on it and call it good.

didn’t know that about Hilux trans - I think you could take it around the world but I’d wait for a 2026 for them to work out the issues haha

Believe I read that on a Jeff Lange thread with all the nitty gritty specs. Will try and find it.

Ha! right!? The internet tends to blow things out of proportion. Remember the 90s V6 trucks blew head gaskets, they took care of it, the rusty frames on 1st and 2nd Gen Tacomas, and 1st Gen Tundras, replace those when they were well out of warranty. Toyota does stand behind their projects, sure we owners tend to nit pick including myself, but there is a reason we continue to buy them.
