Well, I've wanted tinted tails for god knows how long. My problem though, was that tinted tails in NY are illegal. I asked a bunch of shops in my area if they could help me out and all of them replied back with "no way", "tinted tail lights?", and "no no no".

So I did a little searching and found a guy that helped me out tremendously. I can't thank him enough. I know I can tint my tails with VHT and a bunch of other tints, but I wanted the professional black and clear mix. My tails came back with the exact amount of tint that I had asked for and with a perfect shine. Since tinted tails are illegal in NY, I didn't want to go crazy with tinting them. I'm trying to get the tinted look without the attention of the fuzz. The tails also help me get closer to finishing by black on silver look.

The tails are '09 OEM LED tails and the third brake light is an IPCW Red 6 LED light. I got the IPCW LED third brake light so it would match the OEM tails better. The directional bulbs are Sylvania Silverstar Turn Signal bulbs and the reverse lights in the tail lights are 55watt, 886 bulbs custom modified to fit the plug.

Here's some daytime pics (lots of them). I'll post nighttime pics later tonight.

not into tinted tails personally, but like that 3rd brake light.

thinking about asking for one for CHRISTmas...is it bright? does it look good w/ the 09 tails? easy install? any leaking issues since you installed it?

thanks for any help on the above!

it does look good with the 09 tails. it is bright. is very easy to install (two screws and two wire splices) and for more extra security against water protection i used a bead of black silicon on the inside edge. i'm more than satisfied with it. i scuffed up and painted the chrome ring black while i had some time. i hate chrome!

here's one similar to what i bought...

ya, it's an aftermarket LED brake light. got it off ebay. figured it would match the '09 tails better.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

the light comes with a chrome surround ring. i'm not a chrome fan. i scuffed it u pretty good and painted it black. the light assembly doesn't come apart like the OEM 3rd brake light. it's a sealed unit.

The links do not work anymore, but is that 3rd brake light listed for the 1st gen Tacomas? I was hoping someone could verify that they have the same 3rd brake lights...

Looks good, but get ready for the ticket and to take them off if the cop wants you to, been through that one before.
