My sr5 came with the red panels and stitching and I love it! Matter of taste, not sucking.

Just FYI, not all Katzkin installers will do the door panels and center consoles. I got a quote from Katzkin directly and they said that my closest installer would not work with the door panels or center console. The closest one that would do it was 90 miles away. They offered a $150 credit for the inconvenience, but between that and the fact that doing them would have added an extra $500 to the $2,150 they already quoted, I said no thanks.

To the OP, look for an auto upholsterer in your area, take the truck to them, and tell them what you want. I'm sure they will be able to help.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Yes, I agree, the truck does not "suck", in fact, I like it if it just didn't have those red panels:) Using that little word sure got some responses, and I appreciate all of your suggestions. I'll take her to a local upholsterer and see what they can do. If nothing else, I'll check out some junk yards/aftermarket places to see if I can get some black panels, or just learn to live with them. Thanks again!

I kind of like it on a black truck. On an SR5, I believe the inserts are either grey, brown or red. I think you have to step up to a TRD for black.
If they bug you that much, go to an upholstery shop. They can help you.

compromise, change the panels and live with the stitching. most likely you will put protective seat covers on anyway.

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
    +1.

If you're worried about the interior by any stretch, I'd start by getting rid of the ash tray and smoking habit on the inside of the truck.

Sounds like OP walked into the car salesman trap, they'll let you purchase as ignorantly as you'd like. :pccoffee:

Let me know if you decide to part out your truck. I'll take first dibs on wheels and shocks.

If the materials on the door panels are the same as on mine - a 2017 SR5 - they are vinyl and, you can paint them. The brand of products I used to do mine is SEM. There is a vinyl "prep" spray that softens the surface so they will accept the paint. You can have standard colors of their paints (spray cans) or, some of their dealers have the equipment to custom make any color and put it into spray cans - I did do this. Lot of work to mask off the panels to paint but, anyone can do it.

I've had mine done now for about 10 months and not even the slightest signs of any fading or deterioration.

Sounds like it worked out well for you. OP said he'll be taking his truck to an auto upholstery shop but for others searching for a solution.. do you happen to have pictures of the process or end product?

What state are you in? I know of a junk yard in South Carolina with several late model wrecked Tacoma's.

Hard to believe they'd do mismatched interior color combinations like that... what the hell are they thinking!

Sounds like your Sr5 in fact does not suck, it just is what it is. Sounds like the sales guy sucks for being dishonest and you suck for buying something you don’t like. Hope you can figure something out.

I didn't take pix of the process but, end result here. I changed these when I had Katzkin leather put in. Did it myself as the Katzkin dealer wanted $150 per door to do those panels. They require a lot of time to drill out the spots where the plastic is "melted" together holding the panel to the main body of the door panel. So, did them myself for a cost of about $105 plus, of course my labor.

I recently visited 4 Toyota dealerships to get a better idea of how a Sport behaved compared to the OR Ive been in for years . None had a Sport to test drive. A double cab OR and an SR were my options. None had premiums or anything close to what I wanted.
Closest was a customers Limited that I could look at but not touch. The days of test driving a few different models have been over for a while since supplies are limited. Had I known how crappy the Tacomas 360 cams were Id never have spent the extra $$.

If it were me and I hated it that much in this current market, I would go to another toyota dealership, order the truck you want, trade your current truck for the truck you want and be done with it. You will likely not lose a single dime, and you will be able to drive the current truck while you wait for yours to come in. If you monkey around with the interior and do not use OEM parts, you are more than likely going to lower your resale value in the long run....
