I love it already, is going to be so great for my motocross bikes.

I had 1 question though...i didn't get the bed extender (maybe i should have)

I put the bikes on today and they fit good but I can't close the tailgate...Can i ride with the tailgate open-if so
*How you you keep the tailgate in the OPEN position?

i don't want to ride on the highway with an open tailgate bouncing over bumps....is the bed extender the only real option to keep it locked open?

    Thanks in advance,

I dont know, never had that problem. but, why look for a different solution if the bed extender works? just buy one and take it out when u dont need. Search CL. there should be some for cheap

I have the bed extender, and it really doesn't keep the tailgate from moving. It still can bounce a little bit. Unless you are making a Tacoma commercial offroad, I bet you will be OK.
I do like my bed extender, I would have never ordered it, but it was on the truck when they found one with the "required options" I had listed.

    Nice looking truck.

When you load the bikes you use a ramp right? Just leave the ramp under one of the bikes and pull it onto the open tail gate a bit. That should keep the tail gate from bouncing around.

Yes you can travel with it down but you have to make sure it's 100 secure. I know for our work trucks if a load is outside the box we have to throw red danger tape on the end. However I live in Alberta Canada and for the oilfield Thats a regular thing. I can't really comment on where you live just take all the necessary steps to minimize the chance of losing the load or someone behind you running into it. As for the tailgate moving try running a strap running length wise hooked to the hitch area. Don't to it too tight of you take this option it could strain the hinges and cause damage

    thanks for the comments guys

i appreciate the input, the ramp hanging off is a good idea for sure, but im worried about damaging the hinges.

looks like im just going to scoop up a bed extender, its the most logical thing to do i think.

anyone know where i can grab a good one that doesn't require any drilling?

Nice Taco. I agree you should swing down to your local dealer or check them out online....bed extenders are a good utilitarian buy.

I just went riding the other day and my bikes rear tire sits a little on the tail gate so it holds it down. Ive never had the problem where the tail gate flops and bangs around plus when its only you going out riding one bike fits snug with the tail gate up
