My paints peeling and fading, what do I do to prevent rust without repainting?

I don’t mind it getting that rustic look, but I don’t want it to rust. Should I wrap it, never really considered it. Or maybe there’s some sort of long lasting wax? Bros my taco needs ur help

Wraps do virtually nothing to prevent or stop rust. (They do cover it up though.) No "wax" is going to prevent / slow down rust either. The only way to stop rust is to remove it - mechanically (sanding, blasting, etc.) or chemically. Then you need to properly prime, seal and paint the bare metal surface to prevent rust from starting all over again. Sorry, but once rust starts, there are no simple options to stop it. Unfortunately, the best way to avoid this kind of trouble is not to let rust get started in the first place.

Let it rust (patina) to your liking then clear coat it. People pay Gas Monkey Garage top dollar for that look.

I'm in the same boat. After 16 years my clear coat on my hood and roof finally gave up. Was thinking of wrapping the roof and hood before the paint started peeling and chipping off too. I don't mind the rustic or even 2-tone look. Just don't want rust.

You have 2 options - 1) you can have the truck painted 2) or you can have the truck painted. Actually a third option is to let it keep on rusting until it turns into a pile of rusted shit.

When it loses its clear coat, next is the paint, next it will rust. Recognize the warning signs.

I’d wet sand the bad spots and spry it with rattle can clear coat.
    Professional result? Hell no.
But it should work, and it’s cheap.

Of course this coming from someone who could care less about looks.

If the metal is ferrous, apply a rust converter to it. It's forms a blackish primer that's pretty tough (but really should be painted over for lasting durability). PlastiKote 624 Rust Converter is a good one I've used that doesn't break the bank.

Yea I was gonna suggest a rust converter as well.
I had an old Datsun Z car that spent most of it’s life up north and had major rust damage. I used a spray type of rust converter made by Mar Hyde, went on clear over paint and turned rust black. Stopped the rust til I could do the body work and paint it.
If my Super White starts to peel, this is my plan.

I don't see the issue with wrapping it as long as you're just trying to prevent further fading, and not trying to stop rust (but you don't have any anyway). For me, wrapping has kept my paint in great shape and halted any further fading I had. I wrapped my hood to protect it from salt water dripping on it when I carry my kayaks (not because of paint fade). I replaced my wrap and my hood looked as good as the day I put it on. I also wrapped my roof for the same reason. My roof has a very small faded spot and the wrap kept everything as-is when I went to replace it. For those wrapped areas, it's great. I don't care about the water spots on the wrap and it's been a physical barrier between the paint and the sun. That's just my experience.

No rust Yet . Forget about the poppy patina . Definitely should do something now . Wrap or paint will need to sand down strip down . At very least polish regularly.
