    neglect, mostly.
i can see this thread has gotten derailed some (go figure), while i have no opinion or preference to mayo or miracle whip, im with you OP. my folks didn't buy my truck nor pay insurance, gas, repairs etc. im proud of that, and plan on treating my kids the same way.

hell i'll rant with you. . . guy i go to school up here with is the definition of a ten cent millionaire. drives a brand new fj that mommy and daddy bought . .. . well, i mean financed out the ass. he's got 3k worth of sound equipment in it, buys a brand new pair of Justin boots about twice a year and is always ready to shell out cash any time he wants to show it off. . . my freshman year i stayed in a pretty nice dorm (folks paid for that, trust funds and scholarships paid for school, i'll admit it) and he'd always slide in comments about "yeah i don't have all that money to afford to live there" and shit like that. while i was driving a beat up jeep with a crazy oil leak in a few places, smoked like the marlboro man, popped and jumped all over the road cause of a stretched transfer case chain and i had to bang on one of the headlights to make it work. all while he's in all of the above mentioned clothes and fj and other things of that nature. /end rant.

Hey Wheeler this is the way to handle the punk that is busting your chops. Next time he says something about mommy and daddy paying for something just agree with him. Tell him mommy and daddy pay for everything and give you money too. Don't let him get you down. Then tell him "I'm sorry!" When he asks why your sorry tell him you think its so sad that you were told "he doesn't know who his real daddy is!" Act sincere like you mean then when we walks away just laugh inside at what an asshole he is. That should stop it. If he says he knows who his daddy is just agree with him...Oh you do okay man that's great. He'll figure it out in a couple of weeks and everyone else will laugh there asses off at him.

OP, I agree with especk. You should be proud of the fact that you appear so successful at such a young age that people assume your parents bought it. It's a compliment.

My stepson, on the other hand, has the opposite problem. His mother and I bought him a truck as a graduation present but it looks like something an 18-year-old who worked at Denny's could afford. We're grooming him to look like a failure. ;)

I can understand where u are coming from, everyone thinks my dad is Bill Gates because he owns a class 3 gaming casino! Some accuse him of spoiling me by helping me pay for my truck! I told my dad when I was 7 years old that I was going to start saving all my money to buy a car (then I wanted a 2001 Monte Carlo for some reason) Dad told me good luck. So from then on I saved all the money I got from doing chores around the house, birhtday and Christmas money. Then when I got my job delivering newspapers at 13, saved all that money. After that a percentage of my paycheck from all my other jobs I have had since then went toward buying a vehicle for college. When that time came I had just over half to afford a brand new Tacoma (counting the trade in estimate on my 74 Monte Carlo too) My dad was so impressed with me and on behalf of saving that money and getting good grades all throughout school, he picked up and paid the remaining for the truck.
Now all that hard work paid off, I am 18 years old and driving a brand new truck that I can safely say I paid most of it by myself. I remember how hard I worked and how close I came to giving up on it at times, but I kept going. But now I got something that will last me a good 15 years if I take good care of it, which I will.
So moral of the story is, dont let it get to you. The world is full of assholes assholes, and more assholes. You are a hard working man and I bet anything that kid used to be a jock at your school right? Well more cases than not, those are the types that end up flipping burgers at the grill in a Mcdonalds somewhere for the rest of their lives. People like me and you have been to the School of Hard Knocks and know that the meaning of hard work will mean good rewards at the end.

Thanks man appreciate it. Funny story BTW.

Nice man, I wish I had started saving that young. I had my heart set on a Silver 1st gen TRD 4x4 ever since I was about 15. Was looking for about 2 years (these last 2 years) for a Taco. Had trucks bought out from under me on the way to sign at the dealership Twice. I'm glad it happened though, because they were beat up. Then my girlfriend found a truck (now mine), in her hometown 350 miles away. Knew the seller, called him, drove up the next day and bought her. Saved up a long time for her, and finally got the exact truck of my dreams. Best feeling in the world, amirite?

Yeah and by the looks of your sig pic, you got yourself a really nice 1st generation, and the last of their year too 2004, someday if you take care of it, I am sure it will become a desired collector's item possibly. You got a good gf too! If she can find you a nice truck like that, she's a keeper!:D

No kidding! Even after I got my lift/tires put on, she tells me she likes it every time we drive in it. I was afraid she would hate it since I "lifted it."

i get it. (some of you prob think that about me) but yeah i may not have paid for all of my truck. but i did pay around 9.5k for it. mom and dad paid a little over half. but they know i will take really good care of it. i can’t stand even one empty can of Dr. pepper in my truck. most gum rapers i have ever had was 5 i put in a cup holder. i wash it about once a week. ( will prob be like every 2 weeks this winter unless we get snow. i will wash it really good top to bottom and under it. to get the salt off. and the reason i have not done like any mods yet. is because i don’t really have the money to right now.
