    I noticed that with the 'yota automatics. Other vehicles I've had in the past (Chevy silverado, volvo v70 XC, just to name two off the top of my head to show how different the applications are) would start out in 2nd if you put the shifter in 2. As a matter of fact the volvo would start out in 3rd if you pushed the W (winter mode) button. But you're correct , no matter what you do with the toyota it would start out in 1st. Unless there's some trick that none of us know!

    My truck hardly rev hangs anymore... Or maybe it's because I've adapted my shifting to the truck.

    My only chagrin with the manual is the throwout bearing issue. Toyota fixed mine for free.. But damn that is a stupid design flaw.
