Good point, I was just trying to think out of the box at other options as the JBL sub/amp is the better part of the JBL setup. The door speakers aren't much different than the factory stocks IMO.

I think the JBL door speakers and tweater looks pretty robust - although I have to admit, I no nothing of the non-JBL speakers, or how big the magnets are.

Here is a bit of info of the JBL Tacoma setup:

I was fortunate that my install went pretty smooth. I do like the sound overall, and provided them some feedback on the tuning. I did my speakers on one day and tested with the stock setup. They were a nice improvement and I didn't have any issues or concerns. I then moved on to the sub/amp/wiring the following day.

    Another update:

I diagnosed the source of my noise/artifact, apparently I had a wire from the head unit touching something it shouldn't have as I removed it, straightened/organized the wires running to it.

In addition Daniel refunded me $10.00 for the missing loom wire (which I replaced at a cost of $2.99 from Harbor Freight) but it also took me about an hour of my time and about 20 miles of driving/gas.

After having this in for a couple of weeks, I'm still satisfied with the system. For my musical taste it severs up just enough bass response and the mids and highs are clear and crisp. I would recommend it for those that aren't budget conscious and prefer the OEM look. For those that dont mind making alterations to the truck, removing the back storage bins etc. I think a better sounding system can easily be had for the same amount of money!

I just got the last bit done on mine today after going in last week to get it installed. There was an issue with the pins on the head unit to amp harness so I had to get a replacement shipped in (which they overnighted straight to the shop) and then reimbursed me for the extra labor charge to fix it. Sounds great now!

I mainly did it because of the OEM look and the fit and finish of the sub enclosure into the storage bin. I didn't have JBL either so it was a major upgrade.

So far no real issues with it other than when no music is playing I can hear a bit of speaker hiss but I have music playing 99% of the time anyway, and I can just turn off the radio if I need music silence.

Clarity is definitely this systems strong point as it doesn't distort as it gets louder. I haven't passed about 25 or 30 on the head unit since getting the amp wired up and generally leave it at 10 to 15 max. It's amazing just how loud it can get. Enough to see the sub moving full range. While it doesn't have the impact of a 500W 12" sub, it's certainly adequate and it doesn't over do the bass to where it's overwhelming. Perfect IMO and I don't care to shake all the cars around me.

I will say Daniel has been great to me keeping in touch every step of the way since delivery, install, communicating with the radio shop, shipping parts, and the reimbursement. So props to him and OEM Audio Plus on their customer support. Pair them with a good installer if (you didn't DIY) and it's a pretty good experience.

I appreciate both of your reviews while I wait for my system to be shipped. Chase, do you have any noise interference?

None at all. I did initially but after removing my head unit again and organizing the wires a bit behind it the noise I was hearing from the drivers tweeter area disappeared.

I am saving $$ to purchase this setup also,.... My big concern is whether the dealer would void any warranties with the audio system if they figure this out... I assume I can always unplug the wires and revert back to the factory setup if I ever encounter issues with my head unit that may need work under warranty, and hide the new cables out of site. Any thoughts on this?

I would think you would be able to do this without issue, all the wires that you install are covered and wrapped together so you could even remove them if needed. I could probably revert back to factory in less than an hour, but as OCD as I am, the reinstall would take 4 hours or so - now that I know what I'm doing.

Good point.... Any chance you can play some music on your new system and video tape and upload it here for the rest of us to hear? I know for us listeners, what we hear depends on our PC or laptop speakers but I'm sure we can distinguish the better quality sound you are now getting with your audio upgrade. Cheers mate!

I really wish I had recorded a before so you can tell the difference in the after, but I'll try to do it this evening with my iphone when I get home. I have no clue if the quality will translate due to audio recording quality and audio playback sources both coming into play. It's probably not the best barometer for giving you a true idea of the sound quality.

I am interested in this system as well! I know there can be systems better had going the aftermarket route but I have run into problems in my past vehicles and the DIY and OEM options definitely appeal to me. My question would be is there anywhere to purchase the 450Q system other than directly from the OEM+ site? Any way to get a discount from the $1500 price tag?

I reached back out to "OEM Audio Plus" support and I was told that they presently don’t have any Forum Member Discounts for the Reference 450Q sound solution — The product is still very new and they maintain pure pricing due to their relationship with Toyota Associated Products. They do however offer a Military discount to our Men and Women of service. The other option for owners that cost is a concern is the System 450Q solution that offers their signature sound reproduction. This kit utilizes the Tacoma’s stock door speakers while featuring the Multi-Channel DSP power amplifier, Tacoma-Specific Subwoofer System, Quick-Sync Wiring Harness and 1” Soft Dome Tweeters. This is basically the same system as the more expensive one, minus the speakers. Here is a link for those interested: http://bit.ly/TCD_SYS45Q

I tried this today and with my iPhone 6s the video/audio recordings are impossible to discern the sound quality and would just serve as an injustice to upload it.

If anyone is in the Mobile Alabama area and ever wants to give it a listen id be glad to let anyone hear it.
