Get a cat. I hate cats. We live in the woods. There are mice. But since we've had a cat, we haven't had a mouse. get a trap and put some cheese or some peanut butter on it. Or get one of those sticky traps. They walk on em and get stuck and end up basically suffocating. Make that sucker pay for what he's done to your truck!

I just like the simple rat traps, if they eat the poison they can die anywhere, if they hit the trap, instant dead.

Take Away Their Food: Keep garbage in tightly covered cans. Feed dogs and cats in a dish, take up uneaten food and wash the dish. A squirrel guard will also deter rats and mice feed from feeding from bird feeders.
Destroy Their Homes: Remove any places where they can hide and reproduce. Remove trash, old boards, weeds, brush piles, rock piles, firewood, weeds and other junk from your home, garage and property. Don’t pile wood against the house, and store firewood at least a foot up off the ground.
Close Their Holes and Entrance ways: Mice and rats can enter your house through openings as small as a dime. Closing their entry holes is one of the most effective ways to prevent mice and rats from becoming a pest in your home. Cement or caulk around pipes (gas, water, hose, air conditioning drains) and wires (phone, cable, TV). Cover clothes dryer vents (be careful to allow adequate airflow) and clean them regularly to remove lint build-up that could be a fire hazard. Seal small holes and cracks by stuffing them with steel wool, then caulk over them. After you get rid of rats and mice, close their burrows with rocks and dirt. If a burrow is reopened, then you know you still have rats and mice.
What Not To Do: commercially available products labeled as “repellents” are generally ineffective. Taste and odor repellents are not registered for rats and mice. Homemade products generally do not work either.
Non-native rats and mice are not protected by state laws, but shooting is not generally effective for controlling rats and it may be dangerous and illegal.
Fumigants or gas cartridges should be used only by licensed pest control operators. Never use fumigants or gas inside structures or dwellings where humans or pets will be exposed.

same thing happened to my gf PT Cruiser I just let the Rottweiler in the garage and she ate them. She paraded the dam thing around the yard so the rest of the rats could see and then she happily dismembered i Fixed the several wires and have been trouble free since. I let her the Rottweiler in the garage once every couple of weeks to make sure. I have to let the gf in the garage to get her car more often than that.

The peanut butter on a regular Victor trap works the best. For optimum results, set the bail and trip rod to raise the bait holder/trigger. While firmly holding the bail in the set position, smear a dab of peanut butter UNDER the RAISED trigger.Make sure the trip rod is still in place, gentlyrelease your grip on the set bail and place the set/baited trap down in the target area. When I bait the traps conventionally (top of trigger/bait holder)the kill rate is around 60 pct. With the PB under trigger it's closer to 90pct for every sprung trap. Happy Hunting.

A friend lost his Dodge truck to squirrels. They chewed through a fuel line so he had it towed to the dealer. A not-too-bright person at the dealer started it up to move it and the leaking gasoline caught fire and destroyed the engine compartment. They got to buy him a new truck.

This was their daily driver. I'm picturing a squirrel sitting by the side of the drive with an arm full of twigs wondering when they're going to get back - there is work to do!

i know this isnt how to get rid of them but kind of how they got there!! Im a tech at a Honda dealer and we had a service news about this b/c we had a few cars coming in with this problem, usually more when its cold out but it can happen at anytime! Obviously there looking for a warm place but when they get there they chew some wiring up b/c the outer coating is made from Soy and they like to eat soy so they find a nice warm place and them get a snack i guess...... We had a problem with a new Fit and they have electric power steering and a mouse chewed through the big power and ground wire and lets just say he didnt go to far!!!!! They advised us to put mothballs in the engine bay to keep them away so that would be my fix, the sock full of them i think is your best bet that will keep them away, the poison will kill them but they have to eat it first, the mothballs will keep them away!!

Had some of those suckers getting in my Infiniti...in California you cant buy good rat poison anymore! Bought some of those cakes that go in the cute little mouse house and some sticky traps.....found the mouse house shoved around and some hair on the sticky but no mouse.....got out the old Rat Trap! Peanut Butter on a hunk of cheese, and for good measure (as I don't have kids or pets around) put a nail through a pair of the cubes for the mouse house and nailed them to the floor plate. About 6 critters later, problem solved. The 6 were in the Rat Trap and varied in size to about 3" body length....not sure about the cubes...they ate them like crazy, but they are a slow death type stuff now so not sure how many that got....just keep after it as there will be more than 1!

The wire insulation is made from a soy based plastic. That is what they are eating.

    Mothballs do work.
But you want to kill them also.
The sticky pads by your tires r best.
They don't die in your truck, garage,or house.
Also like snap traps with peanut butter,& bait houses with poison.
Mix it up a little for best results.
And make sure at the first cold snap u have all out. The mice will be looking for a warm dry home. Start & move the truck, they don't like that.

I had that happen to my wife's 2007 Prius with field mice. They ate through the friggin A/C coolant and drip lines. Then they died and stayed stuck up there, and later started "cooking."

Really? You don't have the decency to fall out of the engine bay after offing yourselves on treated hoses? Yuck!

Dealership's service department was amazing, replaced the damaged lines and recharged the system for free (even though it was 6 months out of warranty). If you live in San Antonio TX, only go to Cavender Toyota.

I left my Taco at my parents house for storage while I was in Afghanistan, chipmunks chewed the firewall and built a nest. I returned home from leave, In winter, turned the heater fan on wood chips and dust came spewing out lol. bastards, luckily I didnt have the fan on long enough to burn it out. had to replace the cabin filter and clear the nest out. left plenty of traps and Decon poison. went back to Afghanistan and no more chipmunk problems
