What did the dealer charge you for that belt. Trying to decide between oem and a bando off Amazon.

On a side note, do belts go bad with miles or is time a factor as well. I own a 2013 Tacoma with 31k and I belive my belt is squeaking. Would time cause the belt to squeak?

I got the OEM from Olathe through Amazon. I like to pick a Toyota dealer as the seller because of all the fakes. It was $36.64 shipped. About 2x what the plain Bando cost.

dayum, I got 135k out of my stock belt and I probably could have gone longer but didn't want to risk it.

I’m not far behind, I got 120k out my OEM belt and it looked so good I kept it as a spare. Using it until my new idler pulleys come in so I can replace everything at once.

Remember that the whole tensioner assembly includes the new pulley and the spring tensioner that keeps the belt tight on all the pulleys and 3 idlers so if you have a lot of miles that will need to be done. You may get a squealing noise if it slips at times and I noticed a burning belt smell on hard downshifts (full throttle) as the belt tension was not tight enough. With all new OEM idlers and tensioner assembly I'm smooth and quiet again. The slight grating noise creeps up on you and you really don't notice it but when you have all new stuff in there I now notice how quiet it is.

Aftermarket sales aren't subject to the same controls as OEM. Toyota has more stringent requirements placed (contractually) on their suppliers than they impose upon themselves. If it's branded Toyota, it met their standards above and beyond the manufacturer's aftermarket standard.

hey everyone, so recently on cold mornings when i start my truck, it makes a weird noise, like a belt screeching? it's not loud but it's annoying to me. when i press gas pedal gets a little louder. then goes away later on in the day, didnt want to make a whole new thread, but could this be the belt talked about in this thread? its got 97k miles. 2013 V6.

my truck 2.7l engine does it and its quite alarming usually when the temps dip down below freezing, I think its coming from the power steering pump, I did a search onsite it seems that its a normal occurance when the temps get really low overnite.

It's fairly common to hear that in cold starts. It could be a bad idler, stretched belt, bad power steering pump... any number of things. However, the most likely cause is condensation building up on the belt over night. This causes the belt to squeal on cold starts until the moisture comes off the belt. Older belts are more prone as they become rather porous with time, developing lots of small cracks where moisture can accumulate.

on mine I inspected the belt, flushed out the PS with Maxlife ATF, I can tell the noise is coming from/out of the PS pump area but goes away after some idling, I researched it in the 4 cylinder thread seems to be a very common but causes no mechanical issues only occurs after a below 0 cold soak in the morning.

New OEM belt and 3 OEM idler pulleys. Should be good to go, now!

Not done yet you missed the tensioner pulley and assembly - that one was the worst on my 2009 and grooved with spring tension getting weaker.
Only another $100 OEM and a few hours as AC compressor and alternator need to be unbolted to get that tensioner assembly off/on.
As your skid plate is off change the front diff lube and look at the PS return hose as its metal and mine was corroded almost thru at the 90 bent on passenger side.
    Enjoy.

I replaced the tension pulley with a Febest pulley with Nachi bearing that I pressed in last year. If the whole tensioner goes tits up, I’ll replace with OEM. Front diff lube was done this summer.

If the belts are the same length, with the same number of ribs, and a smooth (or smooth-ish) backside... they are considered the same belt. That's why they have the same part number.

I just purchased an OEM belt from the dealer and it carries both the Toyota part number and a Bando number, the bando number being the same as the choice listed on Rock Auto. Toyota uses a number of suppliers for virtually all its parts so it did not concern me that it was not labeled a Gates or something else.
