My silver 2000 Tacoma 4x4 was rear ended yesterday...

The body shop that has repaired my Tacoma on numerous occasions (most of the accidents NOT my fault) had a 1st gen (1999?) Tacoma regular cab 4x4 in the shop one time. It got rear-ended and the bumper was pushed downward much like what has happened to your truck. The truck was NOT totaled, and the at-fault driver's insurance paid for everything. The body shop had to remove the bed to make some repairs, but the frame was not bent.

I don't think so. AC works fine if that's any indication

Also, get a load of my story...

I got hit by a drunk 70-year old man in a 2002 Mercedes three years ago...

    The Mercedes lost that battle!

LOL, you mean STOP TEXTING? Better than a sticker; It's a magnet!

I lost that a while ago, sadly...

Now I've got one that says "THIS TRUCK MADE THE KESSEL RUN IN LESS THAN 12 PARSECS"!

YUP! $2,200 in damage! The scumbag who hit me was a repeat offender, too. He killed somebody while driving drunk in the 1980s! Then he had the nerve to lie to his insurance company and say I ran a stop sign after he got a DUI! My insurance company (USAA) had to eat the cost of fixing my truck after taking his insurance company to court. USAA waived the deductible and did not raise my rates.

    @Jamesboy2233

Join the fun! After what happened to your first gen, I think what happened to the OP's PreRunner is very minor...

BTW, my profile pic is of my old Tacoma. I had a green prerunner before the silver 4x4 I have now. I just never updated my profile. Sorry about that. Will update my info shortly.
I appreciate everybody's input. Makes me feel much better about the situation.
Something similar happened to my green Tacoma a few years back. Except that one got totalled out. Which is the reason why I have been a little worried this time around.

People are crazy. I'm lucky to have had a witness, and that the woman at fault has insurance. Im hoping for the best.
I feel confident that it will work out. I will update this thread when things start happening. Right now it's a waiting game :-\

Check where the cab meets the bed. A collision like that is enough to push the bed against the cab, but hopefully it's fine.

I got rear ended going about 20-30 miles per hour. I was stopped approaching a stop light, when the woman behind me was distracted and plowed right into me.

I wish I could say there was no damage, but part of my TacomaWorld Decal got nicked off. That's it, I couldn't find any other damage whatsoever. Her hood had two big dents in it, and her bumper was tweaked from hitting me.

(Sorry for the music, that's what was playing on the radio. I left it in so you could hear the impact.)

It appears to have done a thing where the bed hit the cab and sprung back into place...

Yep, that's more repair value that could add towards the truck being totaled if you went through insurance.

Ugh, I would rather not have it totalled. It's one of the things that really bothers me about it all. I wonder how that particular damage can be repaired.
I'd like to keep my truck and have it all fixed.

Had a similar thing happen to me in my previous tacoma. I was approaching a traffic light on a four lane hwy after a brief afternoon shower and this newish Range Rover hydroplaned into the back of my prerunner. All mine suffered was a tiny, hardly noticeable indention on the bumper; that I didn't even see at the time.
These trucks are tough as nails. But mine was hit a little too hard this time unfortunately

I got rear ended by some dumb kid on a freeway interchange. Guaranteed he was texting... Anyhoo, my hitch receiver put a nice big hole in his radiator and hood (was daddy's BMW). His bumper made it almost to my tires. Put a small scratch on my hitch, and probably a few scratches on my bumper. I say "probably" because it's a bumper, and I use it, lol. It was already scratched up.

But, I still filed a claim, insurance waived my fee because the kid (more like his dad) paid it, so I took it in for an estimate. They quoted me $600 to replace the bumper and get it aligned. I took the $600 and got an alignment, and probably spent the rest on beer.

Op's damage isn't all that bad. The rear is a no brainer. Get a new bumper and brackets, and a BFH to get the frame back in shape enough to mount the bumper again. The front probably isn't too bad either. I wold file a claim, have the other person's insurance pay for it. Take the cash, and do the work yourself. If you know righty-tighty/lefty-loosey, you can do the work to make it right.

    Good luck!
