I have a 07 and my son jump the battery wrong. I need to find out how to unbolt the main fuse box or to get into it to replace the Alternator Fuse. Also any input in what else I might need to do to get this truck running. Thanks for any advice

Even the pros will make a mistake jumping a battery. Let's hope that the surge did not damage the ECU or any other of the electronics or the charging system of the donor vehicle.

this is going to expensive. I remember there was thread here about some guy frying his electrical system doing the same thing. The dealer charged like $10k to replaced all of the electrical parts that were fried but his insurance paid for it.

There should be a 40a bolt on fse or something like that. I don't think it will be that bad.

Oh man. I guess that's how he will learn, right. You will need to check the whole system. Start looking for salvage yard parts if you can. I will admit that I did this once on one of our late models. Luckily it didn't do anything except burn up a little wire.

Same happened to my Tacoma. Blew the 100A alternator fuse. Would've been $200 but it was covered by the dealer since the tow guy is who screwed up when I called Toyota Care after my new truck wouldn't start at work. Hopefully that's all the happened to yours. Good Luck!

Since nobody seems to have offered much actual advice... ;) I'll jump in with a few basic things you can do.

But as you can tell by most peoples reactions, it's a pretty serious thing and if you don't know much about car electrical systems it would be best to call a good mechanic.

Couple things you can easily do:
The battery may now be burnt toast, and that could be one of the problems that needs to be first dealt with. Unless you have an electrical load tester handy, you can take out the battery and bring it to your local Autozone/Napa/O'Rielly, they should be able to test it (and sell you a new one). Call them first to make sure they can test it for you. If your battery is bad, then nothing else can be tested so start here first.

The fuse box is right by the battery and the lid should come off easily. Open the fuse box lid and see if any of the fuses inside it are blown. The inside of the lid tells you what the fuses are for, and should have a little plastic tweezer like tool for pulling the fuses out to check them. I would start with the bigger ones. If any are burnt, replace them and see what happens. At the bottom of this thread there is a pic of what it looks like with the lid off... and speaking of alternator fuses

If all that is taken care of and the truck is not starting, next pull the alternator fuse out. You should probably get a Haynes or similar automotive manual, for the Tacoma to show you exactly what to do (or again, have a mechanic do it). As you can see in the picture on the other thread, it is not simple and straight forward. Maybe someone has a manual and can help give instructions if you're up for it.

I would hope the circuitry is designed to protect the ECU from such an easy mistake, but I would never test on my own truck. :) If that's fried then it'll be very costly to fix.
