The other day my son had a brain fart and wrote on the drivers door of my truck with a rock. The scratches don't seem to be through the paint, just the clear coat. I've ised some rubbing compound to try and get rid of them but it looks like I'll have to take more drastic methods. A friend suggested I use something called TR3 but supposedly it's pretty caustic. Any tips would be appreciated.

    Get a vasectomy next time.

Honestly, you'll want to take it into a paint shop and see what they can do with it, if anything. My sister did this to my dad's car and if it wasn't the 1980's I'm pretty sure he would of went to jail for whipping her ass so bad.

Good luck. Kids are bad, mmmmmmkay.

Yeah... I was thinking taking it to a professional would probably be my best bet.

For the vasectomy or the paint scratches? :rimshot:

I would take it to a pro. The more stuff you try you could actually make it worse. If its just clear they can work that out. From the pic it seems a bit worse but pic's are hard to tell.

On both counts! Haha Yeah it's hard to tell in the pic but after I washed the truck and used the rubbing compound it seems they aren't quite as bad.

Those wont come out by hand. A good detailer might be able to wheel most of that out or make it look a lot better. If you want to try it yourself you may want to get something like this.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
A good detailer will try other methods other than just buffing. One trick they do is to actually heat up the paint to the point that the clear coat will refill the scratched areas. Then they will wet sand and buff it out. Make sure if your bringing it to someone that is trying this method that it someone that does really good work!

that will definitely need some wet sanding and then polished out. Hopefully it will come out. Good luck.

He's 7, he knows better. He got an ass whoopin. Hurt his feelings more than anything. He's usually a great kid and rarely does anything wrong.

Been there. Not with a kid, but as a kid I'm sure. I was awesome :humble:

    Find a solution?

Take it to a detail shop, they should be able to buff it out, if not they can make it alot less noticeable for sure. You could get a buffer and do it yourself, by the time you get the buffer, pads, and compound you will probably be around $200-250 in materials. Too bad you are 2000 miles away, I would help you out, it should only take 30 min or so.

Man that sucks! I have had good luck with the Maguires ScratchX 2.0
with a DA polisher it will remove all those scratches. then use a sealant or acouple coats of wax after. It will take a lot of effort doing it by hand.

Paid to have it detailed. They did a really good job. You can barely see any scratches. They got almost all of my trail pinstripes off too. Came out better than I hoped. image.jpgimage.jpg
