    Not conscious decisions.

Drinking and driving is a conscious decision. That's why it's so inexcusable.

Why so soft on unconscious mistakes? Sober decisions are usually conscious too.

Have you ever driven over the speed limit?

Not excessively no. It's that and "too fast for conditions" that generally causes speed related fatalities. Not 5-10 over. If you are caught going 100 in a 55 you should absolutely lose your driving privileges for life.

Frankly, I'm not sure why everyone seems so soft on drunk driving. You are driving impaired. You know the risks and they are more significant than anything else you can do on the road. You made a conscious decision to do it. Period. There is no gray area.

in regards the OP point and bashing.. ( I don't know this is trolling or not) But I will make few comments on this matter.
Frist of all,, OP are you fuck up or what? I never hand him the keys of your truck if he going out having fun and drinking. once he gets drunk,, good luck if he lives.. its YOUR auto insunce WILL pays for the damage. It may cost your home depends on the outcome from court hearing behalf of the victum's family.
having that gaget on your truck it cost money to run it and maintain it.. 90% of the it wont work unless someone else breath in it . Better off get him a taxi.
If your son have a bad case of drinking problem,, he needs help. drinking Can destroy life and family. beside that early death of liver problem or cancer of esguiogh. ( my dad died from cancer which was cause of heavy drinking of hard drinks sotch...
I am firefighter for close to 30 yrs.. seen a few nasty crashes that involved with drinking.
so my 2 cents... get your head out of your ass..

No one going soft on drunk driving. Just saying that NO ONE is perfect and mistakes are made.

Driving over the speed limit, even as insignificant as it seems is till breaking the law. Driving down a residential street that the limit is 25 mph. Doing 30 or 35 and you hit someone. You made that choice to speed. Now granted, it may have not made a difference. But it could have. And your speed will certainly be taken into account in court.

Not saying anyone should get behind the wheel after a night of drinking.

Just making the point that everyone does a little something that technically not correct.

Love the holier than thou attitude. Most drunk drivers don't know they are drunk, the best way to combat this is with a DD. Have you ever broke a law? Who are you to be judge, jury and executioner? Kids make dumb ass choices and with the right guidance they sometimes turn into outstanding adults no matter of past mistakes.

Sorry folks, we are going to have to agree to disagree here. I don't believe alcohol is an excuse for anything, regardless of age. They know exactly what they're doing and they do it anyway.

You've made a lot of mistakes in this thread. Have you been drinking and TWing?

There's probably a bunch of people on here that need a DTW (designated T W'er )

For some reason I assumed that you, like all the moderators, read every post.

    ---------------------
I don't know how accurate the alcohol consumption vs weight = BAC charts are. I keep meaning to stop by the local University and assist them with law enforcement officer training. I'd like to do this for multiple reasons, primarily, to get paid to get drunk. But it would also be neat to learn some things about BAC. They won't let you leave until you are under the limit and all that and I imagine you take quite a few breathalyzers.

Just a thought, but can't you log out of TW to where your son would need password to post? Not sure about the drinking/driving thing since if it was my kid I would have their ass and not ask on a forum what to do. Is it off base to think OP might be making shit up for his own embarrassing posts? Sorry to the OP if I'm totally wrong but something doesn't quite add up.

What's wrong with living at home? It's very cost effective and really helps you get on your way to being successful without having to take on all the costs by yourself. I'm on a scholarship that allows me to not work during school and save a ton of money with engineering work in the summers. If I had to pay my own insurance and phone, get a job, I wouldn't have the grades or sanity I do now, earning a 5 year degree in 4 years. Totally off topic, sorry.

As for OP, my parents have said multiple times that they got blessed with me and that I didn't require much work to raise, BUT my mom always told me if I ever got into trouble to just call and she would come pick me up, but other than that I never got into any trouble with alcohol. I knew the dangers of drinking and driving. There shouldn't be a guessing game with your son, you need to talk to him. In your shoes I would not be throwing a breathalyzer in the truck and as stated before that is an insult to your relationship. If you want to know something, ask, don't beat around the bush. If he is drinking and driving he needs his ass whooped and to be riding a bicycle.

My Junior year of high school, 3 guys who most of the school knew and loved died in a drunk driving accident, nearly killing a man and his daughter. It devastated the whole community. It is an extremely selfish thing to do and if he is struggling with that decision he needs to be shown the damage he can cause.

Growing up in Texas I saw this picture all the time. Your actions today can affect someone for the rest of their life.

10 yrs ago my friend had the interlock when it first started in MA. It required a test to start the car, 5 min later, than randomly every 30-60 minutes. His didn't have a camera that I know of. I wouldn't even let him touch it to pass it to me when I DD'd his truck home for him.
