    Any branch of the service is a good stepping stone to greater things. You will get out of it what you put into it. And you will get a chance to see the world be apart of something great.

    I know this is too late for the original poster but here is some advise from someone with an engineering degree that works for the armed services.

    Get into the aviation electronics or avionics technician field, those are some of the harder enlisted fields to get through school in and will set you up very nicely for a civilian career. Many former AE and ATs (Navy ratings) work for me and can make upwards of $100k/year if they are good at their job. I also know a few former grunts that made it, but it is much harder for them to get their foot in the door, gunts, former ordies etc have a reputation for not being too bright and it follows them and sometimes they get undeseveredly labeled as being too dumb for the job.
