I noticed when decelerating from 70 mph (say on a freeway exit ramp), my speedo decreases in jumps. It's like it gets stuck a little them drops.

Anyone else notice this on theirs?

Auto transmission? They seem to be programmed to engine brake so you're probably noticing it when it drops a gear.

Auto yes. It's not synced to gear changes.

How many miles do you have? I had the same thing happen occasionally for the first 5,000 miles or so but I haven't seen it happen in a long time (I've got a little over 13k miles). Mine was typically in the 40 mph range and would happen both during acceleration and deceleration. You could mention it to your dealership but in my experience it was random and difficult to reproduce, I even showed them a video but they wouldn't do anything unless they could reproduce it. I'm hoping it's gone for good. I believe there was already another thread on this if you want to dig for others experiences with this.

It would be extremely boring and should be very easy to imagine.

Imagine you're exiting a freeway. It's a warm sunny day with high whispy clouds and a slight cool breeze out of the northeast. You're exiting a freeway and are subsequently decelerating from 70 to 45. As you begin slowing down, you notice your speedo is still at 70. Just then, it jumps down to 64. Despite your continual gradual deceleration, it stays on 64 for a few moments then jumps down to 60. You notice that even though you're still steadily slowing down, it stays at 60 for a few moments. Just then, the speedo suddenly jumps down to 56.

    How's that?

whatever it is, should be smooth and linear with no hopping

that is defective, need a new combo meter or other replacement

Someone weighed in earlier that it got better at 5,000 miles. If it will get better, I'd rather not have the dash torn apart. If it will get worse, I need to have it fixed.

well it's news to me that an electro-mechanical integrated system with problems 'gets better over time' unless
it is specifically a moving part that is bedding itself in somehow

the only thing I can think of is the tank sender 'wears in' but that does not account for the tach needle

or maybe the needles in the combo meter themselves are gummed up with spider farts...
    actually this is more likely...
they used a lube in the combo meter needles that went bad somehow

you would be better off getting it (combo meter or whatever parts) replaced if your indicator needle is jumping like in the vids

It's almost just like it needs grease. it's just "catching" in small increments.

Alternating current from the speed sensors are converted to direct current to drive the mechanism in the dash. I would be looking at the conversion module . I believe its part of the body control module . There are sooo many variables that come into play here . A computer scan would be a good start

That happened once in my truck, then it sorted itself somehow. Hasn't happened since.

My speedometer is about 1 MPH slow, If the digital says im going 65 the speedometer will show me going 64. A little annoying but I rarely look at the speedometer so I'm not going to pursue it.

it's gonna be off by some percentage no matter what you do.
    a perfect tire
    perfect inflation
    dead accurate speed

only lasts until some few mm of tread is worn, then speed is inaccurate. anything 5% is acceptable but ideally 1% is damn good.

did anyone ever find a fix to this? i thought i was the only one with this problem. when my speed decreases, the needle ticks down instead of smoothly going down.
