I have a spacer and AAL, and the truck rides like shit. The leaf doesn't so much look like another leafspring, as a 1.5 inch thick bar that just sits at the bottom. I bounce off of small speed bumps - the truck, especially the rear, will leave the ground. I feel every single pebble in the road even with my 33's. I took a ride in a friends truck with proper lift and it was like night and day. SO If I'm saving up for a nice Icon set up, what can I buy in the mean time that will give me a 3" lift without bottoming out?

Eventual use - I'm not really into mud/rock crawling. I definitely want a bit higher speed with the trophy truck wannabe on baja like trails.

I'd just go back to stock, ditch the spacer and pull the leaf until you get the Icon stuff, otherwise you're just pissing money you could be saving on a better setup. For $300 you'd probably find stock size wheels/tires and can sell them later for not much less than that.

This ^ or just leave it until you can buy a better setup.

Thanks guys. I had thought about how it isn't affecting my ability to drive, it's just not very nice (looks good from the outside though). I'll take that advice and use the money for the icon set up.

You could always pick up a set of the Bilstein 5100s and ditch the spacer. The 5100s are like $200 and once you upgrade to the ICONs you could sell the 5100s on here to another member. Every time I see a thread for 5100's for sale they go like lightning. Just another option.

just go stock til you get the coin for the icons, there is no sense in spending money on another set up.

2.5 inch max lift with 5100s alone, and that doesn't solve your shitty AAL ride in the rear. Really wouldn't bother.

Your new Icon system will eat that terrain for breakfast and still be hungry for more. Just do it!!

As a first step towards your goal, and one that'll improve your ride right away when you do it - replace your "short length" add-a-leaf (most folks seem to hate those things - a "proper" add-a-leaf is roughly the same length as the rest of the pack, and blends into it, but I digress)

Anyway - when you go ICON (or whatever) you're gonna want a full leaf pack replacement. You can buy that NOW with your current shocks, and it'll be better than your add-a-leaf.

FWIW, I bought a 2008 DCSB Sport 4x4 a few months back. It had a spacer in the front and some crappy AAL in the rear with 285/70/17s installed.

It rubbed like crazy but it looked pretty good. I thought that just doing some trimming would get me to where I could drive the car without issue. Wrong. The ride is terrible and it bounces all over the place.

I've since purchased a complete OME lift with Dakar leaf pack for the rear.

Thus far, I've only installed the Dakars. The truck still has the factory rear shocks installed. Just with the Dakars, the ride is already improved quite a bit as far as bumps and whatnot.

I can only imagine how much better it'll be when the rest of the kit is installed (later this week).

Point of this lenthy post is that if you're interested in the Dakars...I say go for it. Others had mentioned that they'd be overkill and too harsh for a DD. I call BS. Things are nice.

Oh good, I'll pull the trigger on the Dakars. I've just finished grinding all the rust off the frame and I'm painting it with POR-15 tonight, it'll look really good with new leafs back there.

That's the exact set up I'm shooting for. I was thinking stage 3 set-up that DSM has on their page. (dakars + icon without charging you for the AAL that icon has)

I just upgraded to 700 pound 14" coils on the front and I added the special add a leaf OME makes for the dakar leaf pack because of all the weight Ive added to this truck. It still rides great.

Did you go with the bigger coils for the skid/bumper? Looks good.
