Just curious what exactly did the mechanic say was wrong with the transmission that warrants a complete replacement???

Both shops have said that the main input bearing has worn out over time and when I push in the clutch, the noise is reduced. If it were the opposite, clutch being pushed in = noises then it would be throw out bearing.

According to the TSB, when the noise decreases when the clutch is pressed, it's a tob.

Hmm, I would describe the sound as a constant chirping rather than a rattle or a squeak. Could be wrong. If he replaces the tranny, it will fix it either way though, no?

I wonder if the shop is aware of the TSB? The dealership should've been at least.

Its just that if its just the TOB then it would be a helluva lot cheaper to replace than a whole trans. But I mean if its a reputable shop and you don't wanna mess around getting any more quotes than go for it if you got the money.

Wow, this sounds exactly like what happened to mine. I wonder if he'd be able to order the part for me and get it in the shop while they do the tranny. Going to give him a call now, thanks.

You're welcome! A hell of a lot cheaper than a new tranny.

That was the URD part I was trying to think of earlier... I don't look forward to needing it but its nice that there is a fix for it. Hope it works for OP instead of having to deal with replacing the whole trans.

Spoke with the mechanic and he is saying that's an external fix whereas my issue is internal. Sorry I can't capture all that he is saying since I am not well versed in these types of matters.

Huh, that's odd. I'm not well versed in transmissions either so can't really say whether or not I think that's accurate. Hope they're being honest.

These guys have a ton of in-depth reviews that are all positive. I have also been there three separate times and each time they tried to get me out with the cheapest possible fix. When I told him about the report from the dealership and he got under the truck, that's when he brought up the tranny which the other two shops also mentioned. I am going to pay for the fix, love my truck too much to let it fall apart.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Have a Trans-go shift kit installed while you're at it and that Bitch will lay it DOWN! Edit: Shit. Forgot it's a manual but carry on. I like where this is going
