    I agree. Three winters in upstate NY with 2WD with no problem .... it is an aquired skill.

    The only thing I found good on ice are my CCM Tacks.

    Climb a hill, then, in the middle, stops, then go.

    Even with the best tires in the world, you won't be able to.

    Why stops while going up? Because of traffic. We have hills out there and some time, we have snow storms ... Roads are completely covered of ice and snow.

    It's not a matter of skills, it's simply physics.

    snow in my 2wd is fun, especially off road . . . almost a complete absence of traction. I do agree 2wd snow-driving ESPECIALLY with a truck (lack of weight over drive wheels) is indeed an "art" a FUN art. I just wish i had posi-traction.

    We will be heading up to Chicago and Iowa next week and the Tacoma will stay toasty warm. I will opt for my outback. I think that might be the most capable snow vehicle I have ever been in. For me outback is fall and winter travel car Taco is spring summer travel car.

    I have a impreza ( well, now my son has the impreza ),
    and yes the subaru's are outstanding in the winter.
    But for the really nasty stuff, i take the tacoma over the subaru.
    More agressive tires and clarence being the main reasons

    Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
    If you were trying to disagree with me, you fell quite a bit short. We both said the same thing... have to get a run at the hill. Stopping in the middle does make it a run.
    You have to be 50% smarter than your equipment and the terrain. You have to know your truck's limitations. Plan your routes ahead of time, get better equipment, or stay off the road.

    2wd would not cut it here in MN. especially in the blizzard we got yesterday. i was having a good ol time busting through 5 foot snow drifts and seeing everyone else stuck.

    I am not saying that a 2WD is as good or better than a 4WD. I am saying that I did not have any problems on paved roads in the snow with my 2WD. I know better than to go off roading in a stock 2WD pickup. That is just asking to be stuck.

    Wow, it's nice to see some people just like to throw out insults at others on here.

    The fact is no one on here is saying that "2wd is just as capable as a 4x4". There are obvious times when a 4x4 would come in handy. But from my experience, a 2wd can get around just fine in the snow when driven correctly. I have never owed a 4x4 and I've also never been stuck to where I couldn't get myself out. I'll also note that when I lived in Colorado, most of the vehicles stuck in the ditches were 4wd.

    I am one of those people who are two cheap to purchase a 4x4, but I would imagine if I would get stuck a lot in my 2wd, that feeling would change pretty quickly. I just don't need it as of now, especially since I live in Texas again.

    no pu is any good in snow light snow or ice in 2wd ,dosnt anyone remember rear drive cars ? my wifes rav4 will run rings around my taco in 2wd -but in 4wd WATCH OUT , 59 years experiance lived in w.va. ohio ga. ne wyo. gotaa put some weight in the rear..

    The chief instructor at the Bridgestone Winter driving school in Steamboat Springs drives a 2wd Suburban.

    Tires and driver right foot. I did fine 99.9% of the time for 10 years on the Tug Hill (200-300 inches a year) in a 2wd S-10 w/ four studded snow tires.


    That said, having 4wd is more stable at speed with no worries up hills and busting thru a couple feet of snow on unplowed back roads.

    Reading this all like a grade school fight. People drive what their needs require! 2wds are the largest number of cars and trucks on the road, past. present and future! Every single thread I've read on this forum has turned at some point to a 2wd vs 4wd debate. Anger management classes for some here is a must. :eek:

    yeah yeah Prerunners do okay in powder. I drive mine in 2WD in the snow for as long as I can. But when you get stuck. I'll have my 4WD option to get me out. Whereas a prerunner would have to sit in the cold and wait for somebody to pull them out, or to get out and dig.
