My Taco just isn't it for me...

I'm in a huge dilemma. My current truck is a huge money sucker right now.

Last year I bought my Tacoma. This was also my very first own vehicle purchase. I knew I wanted a truck but didn't know what exactly for.
With that being said, I wasn't looking into all the different specs.

    I had gotten a 2wd.
I now know that I want 2 trucks in my life. 1 heavy hauler, and one off road toy. And this Tacoma has neither of those..

Now don't get me wrong, I love Tacomas. Heck, even Toyota. I know that my off roading truck is going to be a Tacoma. Just not this one...

Ive realized that I've spent a lot so far to start making it look off road cosmetically, and I'm already planning to spend more performance wise. It's just never gonna be a true off-roader.

So to fix this.... I'm thinking of looking into selling this one for 4x4. Really interested in a 1st gen. Just not sure how the value of mine will be ...

I need that money for when I get out of military and get out in world on my own.

Has it failed to do anything that you've asked of it?

If yes, then I guess you need a 4x4.

If not, then enjoy your truck!

My first Tacoma was a Prerunner and I made sure not to spend any money on it other than repairs and gas. I sold it for more than I got it and bought a 4x4. I say if you can, test the waters.

I'm positive if you want to trade for a first gen, there will be someone ready to trade in a heartbeat.

    Anyone seen my wallet?
What kind of offroading are you wanting to do? Plenty of folks get their 2wds dirty, but if your into wheelin or crawling then indeed, its not for you.

Another thought is parting out your mods, might get more back.

It'll certainly be cheaper to just go out an buy a 4x4 over conversion would it not?

No. But it'd rather easy to do it on my first gen. Takes a little bit more work on second gens. But like I sad, its been done.

Yeah I've heard of conversions with both gens. 1st gen seems a lot easier, but cheaper to sell and just getting a 4x4? I don't think so. Unless you find a donor truck for super cheap and can do all the labor.

Honestly I'd just sell it and get the better gen(first gen) 4x4. :D Smaller and probably cheaper to build and all.

I loved both my first gens, drove them for about 300k miles. Nothing beats their reliability and easy maintenance. But I gotta say my second gen is way more comfortable riding and roomier. Biggest thing I miss is the 4wd button on the shifter. Absolutely hate the non-lighted knob on my current one.

Haha, I'm just interested in everyone's input.

Leaning more towards to sell and buy a 4x4 than converting. Don't have money and time to do it
