FCA is being sucked into the Diesel gate too. The only good diesel is made by Cummins or Duramax. Unless your into pulling you will never be ahead cost wise. The diesel engine premium over the gasser, the fuel costs more, in some places it’s heavly taxed. The oil changes are at a premium. The maintenance cost too are huge and pray nothing goes wrong with the fuel pump! The styling looks better but the quality is not. I know with all the issues the Tacoma has, you’re still ahead with a Toyota. I have a plug and play remote start on my 17 Ltd. Agree Toyota failed on this. The cost to wire it in would have been minimal. Marketing said no as the demographics of the buyers didn’t warrant it.

I have done two diesel swaps for myself, both became cheaper operating costs than the gas engines that left

Agreed. I can claim it protects my KCs from tree damage and that it allows me to lay long planks from the lumber yard across the beam without hitting them as well, or that it gives me place to actually store it since the crank and turn jack is useless, but your expression of my flagrant and shameless vanity is most likely the true cause...off to the mall...ta ta..

Sorry for your loss... Personally wouldn't invest in anything from Fiat. If I had to go with one of the big three my vote goes with Ford. I feel they are better looking and more reliable than GM these days. Not as good as a Yota by any means... But they beat the tar out of the Tundra in the MPG department. And for the love of God don't buy a Titan or a Ridgeline!

This is my dream truck. $88,025. However to afford it, I have to give up my LX570, and I can't do that. So I dream during the day about it, while I slum around in gardener Tacoma :(

I had a 2014 4 door long bed 6.7 powerstrove. Never had any trouble. Got 23-25 consistently. Traded it at 100k miles for the tacoma reg cab cause I heard they were never biulding them again. My vin # was on the last rail shipment out before they closed the reg cab line in San Antonio.

Sorry to hear about your truck.
If you liked your Taco get another Taco else you'll have buyers remorse. Remember this - there is NOT a perfect truck in the market today so get what fits your needs thee best.
If Toyota offered a diesel or turbo charged 4 banger for the Tacoma that would be pretty near perfect to me.

    - You can get leather in the Tacoma or you can add it for a reasonable cost.
    - Heated leather steering wheel can be added but I do not know the cost. $300 - $600 maybe.
    - Remote start will cost you $200, installation is easy and takes maybe 15 minutes. Uses factory key fob.
    - Cooled seats - may not be able to retrofit these in.
    - More room, well there your stuck with what you buy. Maybe a 4Runner? Those are very nice.

This probably didn't help you too much but that's my 2 cents.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I can diesel swap your truck with a d4d for around 12k, the motor will have a year warranty unless obvious signs of overheating or no maintenance upon inspection

Tacoma dually - that would be interesting. I mean, they are out there, but rare.
This would be an interesting project.
