Get the FROR arms and have him drill them for the tie rod to go under the arm and then run y-link/inverted T if you are worried about it fitting. I know that's normally jeep speak..but whatever. You are doing everything different anyway.

Yea, I don't really want to do cross over steering at all since i don't want this truck to be a sky scraper. The 60's stock steering is basically a y link with some goofy ass rod end looking things on there.

I have to pay homage to my roots as a ghey jeeper with front shackles and y link steering.

The more I think about y-link, it won't work with leafs and regular hi steer arms drilled from the bottom. You'll be right into the leaf pack with everything. You'd need to go modified j-arm like ZUK did with his truck to go that route to keep it low like you want. My draglink just brushes the oil pan on my truck at full passenger stuff.

Yea i have a lot of time to think about it. I think I'm going to raise the drive-train a bit since ill have to make new motor mounts and cross member anyway. I may even toss a 1" (GASP) body lift on it to make it all work out. I'm going to look and see what the fj 60 guys do when they SAS those trucks, the 60 comes from the factory with a Y link type setup.

I got the Drivers side of the axle tore down to the spindle, the toyota gods evened the score with how easy the fj80 axles cone washer popped out, the cone washers on this axle fought me tooth and nail so far! So far the bearings are all greased and look good along with the spindle, should we start the counter now until i drop the axle off the jack stands and F the spindle up???

Got the axle totally tore down. The good: everything was greased. The bad: every seal was leaking so its coverd in a mixture of water gear lube and grease, so cleaning this is going to suck. Time to start making the shopping list....

    Slander,
Where did you get this shifter? Also, what is the height from the base to the top of where the shift rods attach?

Pics for gear head looking right at the rear of the tcase. There is 6"s from the edge of the spring perch to where the diff starts to curve up. Side note i noticed that somehow we welded my perchs on wrong and the whole axle is offset to rhe pax side by an inch whoops!! IMG_20150628_093956_528.jpg

Thanks dude! So you're still using the 2 piece with carrier bearing and double cardon? I'm running a .250 wall 1 piece with single u joints on either end so idk how that would work...

Yes stock rear half with the carrier and CV. I say try it with what you have, the internet experts will tell you it won't work, but try it and find out. It should be fine for at least trail duty. Best case it works, worst case you have to get a double cv.Also the brakes work with the stock brake system, don't waste your time and money on a new master cyl, prop valve and residual valve like people will tell you will need.

I got bored and anxious to work on the truck while I accumulate SAS parts, so I notched my door hinges to make taking my doors off easier. I guess this mod would actually.make it easier to get them back on. Notch the top bolt hole of the upper and lower hinge, that way you can leave the upper bolt in and hang the door solo. I think the Tacoma's look kind of dumb with the doors off driving around town, however out on the trial its pretty nice.

Thanks man, its kind of in a holding pattern while i research and build up my parts supply. Last IFS wheeling trip is in a few weeks, unless some other trip pops up.

Trying to figure out what to do with the steering.

So i picked up a set of pre trail gear inner longs for 100 bucks off marlins board. They had some surface rust but knocked it off with some emery paper, this stuffs the shit BTW. The fj 60 uses a mini truck long side inner axle, and an FJ40 length shirt side inner axle. So im going to sell the long side axle and pick up an fj60 inner and then run some RCV birfs. That should save me about 200 bucks, SWEET! Before and after pics below.IMG_20150809_191505_390[1].jpg IMG_20150809_191821_376[1].jpg
