Yeah, at 18 there are lots of lessons. I kinda thought you might still be a young driver (and I'm guessing this is your first real accident, right)? I'm sure most of us have been there.

Best lesson to take here is if she offers even once to pay, or wants to keep out insurance, get something in writing! Even if it's the back of a cocktail napkin or business card or receipt. Something!

Lesson #2 is it's good to carry a camera. Yeah, cell camera's are OK, but it's easier to claim that someone photoshop'd a digital image than a real 35mm image. I carry a disposable camera, and replace it every few years (the film gets grainier as it gets hot/cold and old). Though, if you're at fault (ie, pulling in front of someone, rear end someone, etc), maybe you shouldn't take pictures...

Good luck getting it squared away.

Arbitration is when someone wants the others insurance to pay their deductable. It goes to some insurance arbitrator...like a court. They make a final Decision.Mine was decided in Illinois i think , though it happened in Oregon.

On the accident I had , She ran a red and said i cut her off. We each paid our own deduct. and my insurance told me it wasn't worth trying to get her to pay my deduct.. Well the f'ker, she got her insurance co. to take us to arbitration.... and 2 of her co-workers lied and said i cut her off, at the accident though they said they saw her run the red. Got easier for me, the intersection has cameras, and she said she had a red but stopped. The arbitrator looks at the facts and ignores a lot of "he said she siad". Since i said i had a green and she admitted to a red she LOST!! and i got my deduct from her. so yes I LOVE ARBITRATORS !

(edit) refers to post 59 "who is the arbitrator"
