I wanted a hidden, but easy-access compartment for a pistol in my truck. The center console seemed like an easy location. I usually carry either a Glock 29 or a Ruger LC9 in that location now.
    IMG_7196.jpg
I bought a couple boxes of rubber floor tiles, as would go down in a home gym or play area. One of them is raw rubber, and the other has a carpeted top.

I cut them in to the rough shape of the inside of the center console. They would be trimmed down later.
    IMG_6975.jpg IMG_6976.jpg IMG_6979.jpg
The raw rubber ones were stacked to the approximate height of each of the pistols, and were glued together.
    IMG_6983.jpg IMG_6987.jpg
I traced out the outline of the pistols on to paper, with a good ¼” (1/2 pen width) margin.
    IMG_6985.jpg IMG_6989.jpg IMG_6994.jpg
I cut the shape out of 2 pieces of scrap plywood, and clamped the rubber block between them, making sure to align the pistol outlines well.
    IMG_7002.jpg IMG_7020.jpg
The outlines were cut out of the rubber blocks, and later trimmed to include finger holes. The blocks were also trimmed to their final size, to fit in the truck.

Using the same spray glue, I mounted black felt to the blocks. I considered faux brown leather to match the interior. In retrospect, it may have worked better, as less glue may have leaked through. I thought the black felt looked better in the truck, and was higher impact.
    IMG_7025.jpg IMG_7028.jpg IMG_7187.jpg
I mounted a piece of the pre-carpeted mat to the bottom of the block after applying another strip of felt along the internal edges of the pistol-cutout.
    IMG_7190.jpg
It fits and works pretty well. As I stated above, If I had to do it again, I would probably choose leather or some other less-porous material to line the rubber with.

I take you made this for storage and not rapid deployment? If its for storage, nice job! If for rapid deployment, no wueno!

    No, just storage.

For rapid deployment, I would absolutely love to find a way to hide something like this behind the dash, maintaining a factory look-

Unfortunately these newer vehicles have knee airbags that deploy from under the dash. My 2010 4Runner hand them and so does my STi. I'm not 100% sure about the new Tacomas but if it's a place your considering I'd definetly check before mounting a firearm there.

Nice work, just wish I could fit my Sig P229 (with my streamlight TLR-4 on it). Was considering getting on of the under steering wheel ones as well, didn't think about the airbag confliction...

My Kimber Solo Carry 9 is always on either my hip or ankle. As the console storage area is the first place thieves check, I can't see storing a handgun there. I wouldn't leave a weapon there. YMMV.
There may or may not be some spare mags/ammo in the rear seat storage, just sayin'.

Wow! Yours looks great but looks way more complicated than my solution that cost 3 bucks to make. A wooden clip board, some felt, glue, and a broom handle....

Measured to fit above the power adapter so is didn't look like it didn't belong.

Oh I just fabricated as I went. I measured from the bottom on the console to just above the top of the power outlet and then cut my base legs to that length.
